I inherited a Jaguar pelt from my great uncle who shot this beautiful animal in 1941 in Brazil. I have a college that wants to buy this pelt and I need to know what the rules are on selling an endangered species.

Also, what is the market value for a Jaguar pelt in 2009? It seems to be in very good shape and it is missing its head - the pelt runs from the neck to the base of the tail with all legs and claws attached.

See pics attached.

Thanks,
Paul AKA Spoonman43

Dude,
His grandfather shot it in 1941 in a foriegn country where you could probably shoot 10 of them if you wanted too. Just call WDFW and ask them about it, dont give them any personal info until everything is cool though right!!

Or call me and I will help you out if you don't want to talk with them. I know a couple of guys there pretty well.

Peace
Fly

Spoonman,

It's a federal wildlife issue, so you'll probably get your most accurate information by calling the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service office (360-753-9440) and asking how to contact a Wildlife Special Agent regarding regulations concerning a 1941 pre-embargo pelt.

You should post up what you find out. I have a Bengal Tiger skin rug with head and claws that I inherited from my grandfather (over 9 feet long). He got it in India if the 60's when he worked over there. I have always wondered if I would be able to sell it.

I would guess they are going to ask if you have documentation when the animal was taken and brought to the states. Value don't know how you would get that or what it would be please let us know.
