Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 This bill was refered to the House Judiciary OK, this is not about flaming any particular polical party. This bill needs to die a very quick death. US Congress bill tracking site: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45The attached links to bill (HR 45) was introduced in Congress on 9 Jan 2009. Mandates licensing for all gun owners. You would have to carry a photo ID firearms license. A training class would be required to be licensed. Disclosure of your storage method would be required for a license. A thumb print would be required for a license. Every sale would have to be recorded by the federal government. If you move, and don't tell an Attorney General within 60 days, you are a criminal. If a firearm is stolen and you don't report it, you are a criminal. There would be no grandfathered firearms. If you do not obtain a license and report every firearm you currently own, you are a criminal. There would be a license fee and a fee for the "services" provided at purchase time. Licenses would be required to be renewed every 5 years. Offical Summary of the bill http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45&tab=summaryOffical Full Test of the bill. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-45

I already carry a firearm's license and was fingerprinted to get that, and it is good for a limited time and has to be renewed. Adding a photo wouldn't be an issue. All of my gun purchases were recorded by the Fed's, except for a few inheritances and private party buys. Guns go in the safe. Not much of an issue with these items.
Not hot on the training class, as I've had literally 100's of hours on that. The fees, and being a criminal if you move and forget to tell folks is an issue for me. Definitely not hot on registerring every single gun. I am certainly not telling them exactly what I have and where it is so they can come and get them.
Might just have a boating accident and lose them all overboard. Bummer.

Didn't we already have a snivelfest here about this issue a month or so ago? Or is this just deja vu all over again?

Thanks for posting the info!
While this kind of legislation rarely gets through, we can't be silent when it comes up. If we keep quiet, this kinda crap will pass. Bill CLinton even acknowledge that the Democrats lost the election back in 2000 in large part because of their anti-2nd Amendment stance.
We have to be ever vigilant when our rights are being encroached upon.
Thanks again, man.

Many people will scream and holler NAZI's! These people are NAZI's!
Well stop and think about the 1934 NFA pushed thru (during a severe economic crisis). First all fully automatic weapons were registered to curb gun violence. Then they began upping the price of that registration fee from a nominal fee to something around $250/yr now, not to mention what the ATF does now when grandpa dies and the paperwork is not transferred within the very short transfer grace period extended to a grieving family.
Now here we are in 2009 they are screaming economic crisis, we need more governmental involvement to protect the masses from thugs and gangsters (be it white collar, blue collar, and baggy pants goons wearing hoodies robbing banks).
And now all these guys want to do is charge a $25/gun registration fee to curb gun violence.
Has America fell asleep and is history about to be repeated?

It's my personal definition of a gun nut. A gun is their personal security blanket. As so many more important things go on around them the only thing that riles the Linuses up is the paranoid perception that someone is going to take "my precious".

You can say that pretty easily if you've never had to draw one to protect yourself from harm. I've done it twice.
As someone else has said, the criminals won't obey the law, because they are, well, criminals. All this does is make law abiding citizens criminals.

Stlhead, you sound like the GH. The calling of people who dont like the encroachment on rights of any kind gun nuts. Just shows what an anti-gun nut the two of you are. Sheep is the right word. Just because your party came up with it does not mean you have to follow. It is OK to call a turd a turd even if it is in your own toilet.

if you want to see just how well gun laws work, check out what's happening in BC. We have very restrictive laws on the owning, handling and usage of any sort of pistols and gangland murders are at an all time high so far in 2009. Every week this year there have been multiple murders. The bad guys will always have guns no matter how many laws or restrictions you put in place.

This is your 8th post? Scroll up for my definition which you reinforce.

Not for the bill. but it did bring out the gun nuts..scroll up for definition.

Way less gun deaths than in the US and per cap so not a valid argument. Make sure I repeat this here for the GUN NUTS...I am not for the bill.
"Define "gun nut"."
Once again scroll up.

Post away, but it won't make much difference. oooh....burned by the old guy. im not a dumb ass, but the guy who says he has no problems with guns, but he does with gun owners qualifies for the title.
