I went once before the last high water, got a ripper native buck. Then once last Sunday and lost a nice fish. That is it.

I batting 1.000 for hookups/trip though. Both of those trips were over by 11 am, because I had to get back to the old ball and chain (house I am remodeling).

Thought I was doing well until I tallied it up and realized I have been fishing 9 days and have caught 3 with one lost. One of the three was a conservative 15#, which is my largest ever and was pretty fun to catch on a spoon. Also caught a large salmon on the Methow while flyfishing for steel. Challenging fish on an 8wt, but does not count towards the steel total. Getting skunked about every other trip out.

Yeah, but that's where you're wrong. Sanity points for time on the river counts for something, and you're not going to get that sitting at home solving physics equations. smile

I've been out about 6 or 7 times, landed 5 and lost a couple. So I'm not really burning things up. grin I've had one good day, a couple decent days, and a couple days I had to count only for those sanity points. And I did catch one big mofo, biggest for me in several years, so that was a little added something.

I'm opher for 3 days chasing brats in November. Haven't been out since. I haven't been out due to the weather, family, work, and it just seems like the numbers are down. I haven't had a day off work since MLK day. I don't get out much chasing natives either.

I'm waiting for springers and already dreaming about summeruns. I spend most of my vacation time on the river in late spring, early summer. I think it should be a good year for summeruns as 2002/2003 was a good year and the ocean conditions seem to cycle every 8-9 years.

To tell you how bad things are my wife went to Costco and bought some farm raised steelhead for dinner last night. I told her I don't like her buying farm raised fish and that I didn't get out enough. Then she complained about how much money I spent on my trip. The problem is that she spends more when I'm gone fishing.

I thought I was doing well till I started talkin numbers with the OP boys. If you measure your success by numbers, and really want to feel bad about yourself, talk numbers with guys like Tbird, Phil, Brad and the gang. Good job men.

Sanity is a beautiful thing Dan.

Does 7 blackmouth in the box count?

Since the reports lately have been somewhat ghastly I suppose nows the time for me to start hitting it hard smile

Somebody has to use that gear you've been pedaling to make sure it works. Lukily for me, it works pretty good,....most of the time. I had a bunch of people over tonight and they ate 4 nice fillets of steelhead of which a couple were caught with the help of some of you and Joe's gear, so keep selling the goods, while we fish.

This season so for me has not been to bad. 11 total fishing days, 4 days bank fishing, 7 days in a drift boat, 14 bites, 11 hook-ups, 9 fish landed.
A mix of brats and native fish, last weekend 4 fish averaged 15 pounds, and all were chromers. Saturday was a beautiful day, I had a long gravel bar all to myself and caught 2 in less than an hour. 14 pound brat, a native buck around 17, it was awsome.

Numbers? What numbers? Got to go fishing to have any numbers. I haven't been fishing since October, and that was for sea run cutthroat. I do all my fishing vicariously through you guys while I get my garage and house built. And that is my connection with sanity.

Going out for a day on the river, soaking up some nature, seeing things you won't see at home, and breathing in some fresh air...........even if your search for fish is fruitless.........can hardly be considered 'failure'.

Some folks might see it that way.........but they make psychoactive drugs for them.

I'll take a skunked day on the river over a day at home every time. That's why.........so far........I haven't killed anybody, even those that deserved it. smile
