headed out for a couple hours this evening before the rain started to come down too heavily. I was able to catch the last bit of the outgoing tide after work and it was fantastic fishing. I fished 4 areas in the boat, caught fish at 3 of them and the water was too turbid to effectively fish the 4th but there were fish there in the murky water.
Not much size to them at this time of year but they are very eager to take a fly. hopefully they will start to fill out and keep muching on the chum fry and sandlance that were evident on the beaches.
small baitfish patterns and a custom popper were the ticket today.

pics? smile

i wish we had the same fishery over here that you guys get to fish over there...i don't know much about the fishery but it seems you guys get bigger fish almost all year round

we get small 8-10 inch cutts starting mid-june, and then they seem to grow to be about 12-15 inches, with a couple rare 18-20 inchers, in august...then the fishery absolutely shuts down until june again

We in the South Puget Sound are really lucky, as our cutts spend a lot of time in saltwater, and they spend the winter in saltwater -- with time outs to run up creeks every now and then and to spawn.

Mreyns, maybe you should pop over to Hood Canal and check all that out....
