Took a couple of friends (father and daughter)out today to introduce them to the salt. They had fished about 6 times on the sound with no fish to show for it and were getting frustrated. I agreed to take them out on the boat and show them how to read a beach, and where to start looking for some cutties this morning. We left the beach around 800 after a short trip to the boat. The wind was in effect unfortunately but they managed to get their flies out there 20-30 feet from the boat. I thought for sure i was in for a very long morning of casting lessons, but they were able to take some small instructions and with a little boat manuvering I was able to put their casts close enough to the beach to find some success. Both of them ended up with fish but the highlight of the day has to be the young girl's first cutthroat on the fly rod. about 15" with beautiful bright slashes on his jaw. a perfect specimen. I didnt fish much, but it was a successful day!

on another note, we fished a lot of flies that i rarely fish due to weighed eyes and inexperienced anglers. I was very suprised at the success of some of these flies that had been in my boxes for years an never been threaded on a line. Always learning something new on the salt.

This one washed up 5/23 at harper boat launch near southworth. Pretty big guy. I live in front of the fuel depot near the entrance to clam bay where alot of sea lions reside. Ususally its like a sea lion choir to where you can hear them in the house when your trying to sleep. Hopefully it was ome of those.

ya it is, sea lions have 2 sets of flippers where harbor seals just have the 1 set in the back as far as I know

Sea Lions have visible ears (flaps).

Seals do not.
