Hello,

I want to take my family on charter trip this summer and am wondering if anyone has a recommendation. They are very inexperienced so I'm looking for a boat with a personable captain and deckhand.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am sure Dogfish will have some input on this but I have fished with Rhett on the Slammer and on Dogfish's recomendation I fished on the "Fury" last year with Captain Mike and had a great time. Good Captain who works hard and a big comfortable boat. Both are run out of the Deep Sea Charters office. Good Luck and have fun!

Gold Rush with Kevin is a great trip. He still knows what type of rod I use. Excellent attitude. He teaches science with one of my long time friends.

Paul Jr. is the deckhand on the Freedom, one of 4 Mirante family members on the charters. Good young man.

Brian Mirante captains the Sea Angel. I remodeled the inside of Brian's cabin, so you can thank me for that long starboard side bench. Very good guy, great boat, and he has new engines.

Rhett on the Slammer is cool. Fished tuna with him. Good times.

These boats all get the "Dogfish seal of approval".

Great crew, awesome fishing and yes I did hit a really big king...gonna let the others do the full report gig as I cant keep my eyes open much longer but it was a freakin bloodbath out there today.

A HUGE shoutout to Stam and his family, Dave for the crash pad and all the others in the group. Great people who know how to throw a really fun party, thanks again!

Cheers

Just one question.... does a dude really need to grow 3 man-boobs to catch big kings like that?

I have been on 4 diferent boats out of WP. My favorite by far was the Swifty. Dont remember the captains name but he was a great guy. When the deckhand was busy baiting or untangling lines the captain would jump down and bait hooks, untangle, net fish. I think he would get more excited than the person reeling in the fish. That was 3 years ago now.

Captain Dave Camp of the Discovery (out of Catchalot Charters) has always been a great guy to fish with also. If I decide to head out to Westport for a day on a charter boat this summer, he will get my business again.

Well, after fishing the Rampage yesterday and having fished on the Fury and the Hula Girl.

Gotta go with the Hula Girl.

I fished with a buddy on the Hula Girl yesterday on a combo trip and did great. Limits of salmon would have been had, but a LOT of natives were caught. I think that we were just a few short of a 20 man salmon limit. I am sure that we would have got our limit if we didn't have to stop salmon to fish for bottom fish. Bottom fishing was FAST AND FURIOUS as we hammered the rockfish getting our limits as soon as we got on top of the school. Every time you dropped your bait you got a fish!!

Captain Steve and his son Jason were GREAT and I will certainly request the Hula Girl with Westport Charters next time I head up there to fish.
