The planets aligned, schedules matched, clients taken care of for now, drift boat cleaned out and I took #2 son over for a quick float on our favorite eastside river. We even managed to bring a goodly number of rainbows to hand and were entertained by the mild inner tube hatch at mid-day. The two women that floated by while reading the "Hot Bachelor" edition of People magazine was the funniest of the conversations we had with those we met along the way. We wished them luck on their search.

The caddis came off nicely at dusk and proved to be the highlight of the day with lesser appearances of PMD's and BWO's. I ended the day on a 20+ inch hog in the dark on a dry fly, winning the big fish award for the day, but graciously losing the most fish award. Given the repeated requests on the drive home for a return trip with the addition of camping on the river for a couple of nights, we'll likely be back before the hoppers start to show....

Nice!
I did a trip like that with a buddy (DblSpey) last year on the Yak and we camped out. Very fun times with mucho fish caught. I also go the big one at the end of the day but pulled the fly out of it's mouth.

Short answer: Yes.

It's not a cast into the grass game yet. Soft water on inside corners, side channels, rock gardens, seams and the familiar buckets and slots all produced nicely. My son also hooked a pig on an indicator rig, but he came unbuttoned after an initial leap followed by the stump imitation. The drop-jaw look on his face after seeing a flying pig was priceless! Nice to at least see the big fella tho'....

Makes me wish that the planets would align for me too. Glad it's fishing well.

I will be working on my several day trip in the eastern northern cal area for next year. Transfers force you to find the new stuff and I already got a pretty good heads up and a jump start. I look forward to the same type of experiences. Looks like the good life.
