snit,

Pardon the blown highlights, but you get the drift. Just a fair to middlin' Hen.

Had Brother Bill out on a limb that day.

Me & the kid found out today that we both drew deer & antelope tags in Wyoming.
Still in the hat for Idaho.
I sense plenty of carnage coming....

Tough conditions here. Temps right at freezing and winds from 30-40mph,since I got off the jet.

Did slip up on another Bull King Eider and I'll upload them one of these days, but the lighting has thus far been very unfavorable.

Grizzly rumors,but no Polar Bears(yet).

Curious as to how this will upload. Tough lighting,100-400mm wide open at 340-ish mm focal length and but 1/250 sec on the shutter...though I slipped on him pretty good.

Stick---Who makes that 100-400 lens if it ain't an "L"?

Bummer. Uncompressed on my monitor, the eyesocket is 1.5" in width,so the above is less than half throttle resolution.

Light looks better this morning,as per a cursory peer out the window.

It is an L and easily the most bang for the Wildlife buck. I just don't shoot any primes, whether they L or otherwise.

Honestly,I think it prefers my XTi body to my 40D and it really cooks on my 1Ds,though it's hard to holster the inherent 1.6x crop factor for critters and the like. All give and take, like everything else. I need to slam it on a 50D and see if I can micro-adjust it to REALLY sing. Same goes the 5D MK II body,as a control curiousity.

I think Humper's 100-400mm L may be better than mine too,as he guns some absolute zingers with regularity.

I fight OOF more than I like, though everything is straight out of the camera less any post production,as I haven't the time to massage all the frames.

It's a little soft and am always a sucker for catch light in the victim's eye,but the "sun" was doing me no favors.

You take what you can get and I was lucky to have some cover to bellycrawl behind and get that much.

Thanks ...good to know as my wife and I were looking at some "L"'s. I agree that primes are prolly not good candidates for "L" a lower F stop can't hurt but no need to go luxury.

Does the 100-400 have the IS?

The 100-400 has IS and is amazing for the loot(under $1500 easily and you can snag one for $1k if used doesn't spook you).

The Canon 500mm F/4 L is THE King. It takes the 1.4x extender exceptionally well,is lightning fast, has mind blowing IS capabilities and grabs a fair amount of light. Downside is that it is fair sized, but IMHO it's IQ is without peer.

Here's one mounted on a 5D with the 1.4x and that was from the Monster Polar Bear Safari. He could shoot birds in flight, with our bucking into a pretty good chop at 25 knots from a flat bottom landing craft. Admittedly the light was favorable,so he had shutter speed on his side, but it's IS is killer.

Another from last night and it will keep the girls guessing.(grin) Had an eye-winker of a shaft of sun poke through the clouds and I fish-hooked him to garner it to my favor.

Ever tried to shop any pics? You'd be surprised what a good wildlife shot can catch from the right buyer, magazine wise.

Fish on...

True that.... Big_Sticks got skills on the camera that's for sure. If i where you i would be looking at getting some of these in National Geographic, my Photoshop/Graphic design teacher says they pay good wink
Stick are you enhancing any of these images with software, or are these straight from your camera?

I'm of the horde mentality and don't sell much of anything, being more prone to give stuff away. Pictures are spilled straight out of the camera.

Had a little light last night, but it started to build a light ground fog at about 3:00AM or so.

Fair light here.

Better light.

Favorable light.

I'm throwing in the towel on the Eiders and will focus elsewhere.

Pun intended.
