so here's the deal i went to the dark side and bought a curado 201 dhsv from a buddy and want to upgrade the drag system with carbontex/carbonmatrix. i heard some rumors that you can either....

whats your opinion?
1.whats your favorite drag washers
2.oil the drag washers
3. put them in without oil

Carbon fiber washers are the best available drags at this point in time.

They work best with a thin coating of Cal's drag washer grease... NOT oil.

I like my dhsv w/ the stock shimano washers in.

Shimano's Dartainium drag washer material is used on the Curado

It stopped a smoking hot mid-teens summerrun in his tracks for me a few months ago. If my 10 lb. UG leader would have held up as I reefed it out under that logjam I'd have a new personal best.

Out of all my baitcasters I find myself reaching for this one the most & its up against an older 200 SF, the Curado E, a Revo Inshore & a Daiwa Viento & some vintage 250/350 BMP's

You can go super-carbon if you want, I just don't see where a man would need it.

if you notice the pic of the stock dragwasher its poor in design. very thin. while the brass gear drive that the dragwasher sits in is rather large. wasted contact space. if you go Smoothie.com the drag washers fit snugly inside the entire area of the gear drive.

personally carbontex washers the very best option to add to any reel.

Yet they work....and work well. Get the carbontex if ya got money to burn, but the stock dartanium drags have worked well for me on my DHSV and I am using them for 'Nooks to 40 lbs.

Yo Junkie, I know you can get those upgraded drag washers to fit the 251 Mag Plus you have there.

I looked into them for my older reels, think you might have to get the ones for the older green Curado Bantam 200/201 & trim em down.

Guys to ask.....

Brewer or Parker might know.

Stam for sure.

If my memory serves me, gramps & I were talking about re-draging our older direct drive reels & that cut down smoothie worked for him
