What leader length are you using for drift fishing or side drifting rags? It seems that with all that floatation you'd want a shorter leader?
Do you add bait or scent when legal to do so?
I've never fished them and with the rivers out thought I might sit down tonight with the boy and tie some up....hence the question "how do I fish them properly?"
Can you fish them behind a bait diver with a spin glo behind it?
Thanks for the vid Bob on how to make them.

Short leader less than 2 ft and load with scent/shromp/eggos, dirrrty water drift fishing!

Basically, just replace the corky and fish them as you would typical drift gear. I just add sand shrimpy's or eggy's with mine---Rags rock---caught my biggest steelhead on a rag--28-29lbr.

Leader 2ft ish

Can you fish them behind a bait diver with a spin glo behind it?
I am not sure I follow that question. But behind a bait diver I would usually use a spinglo

I might sit down tonight with the boy and tie some up---Thumbs up on that---better than homework eh

What brad just said.

Short leaders. 2/0 hooks. Important to use that flat bead between the hook and rag. 18-24". Fish 'em with a sandshromp tail. Hard lead and tubing is very quick and easy. Pocket pitch them like you would the pink worm and side drift them through the long slots.

You can fish them in cleaner water -just downsize the size of the rag and shromp tail.

Pre-tie them on rolls for your boat and you're set!

I agree with Parker. Hard lead over slinkies gives me a much better feel when fishing the rag (I call them sloth's). Works great in pocket water but you gotta use a bit more lead than normal drift gear.

Thanks dudes. Parker those leader rollers are on the short side. I hold you responsible. Had to do some knife work on Sunday.
What I don't hold you responsible for: you explained to me about the cut down oar rights and the purpose of them.....I didn't get it. I rowed half the day (first half obviously) with my hands about ten feet apart. Discovered some new muscles. Whoo boy was I sore yesterday.
I now get it.
Love the boat. Thanks!

I had nothing to do with the leader rollers. Sounds like you need to get a leader roller stretching tool. You can find them in the hardware isle right next to the glass stretchers and the boxes of grid squares.

That's pretty funny about the oar rights. They are only there to keep your oars "up right" while on ANCHOR! Not to be used when rowing - hence the chop!

Fully realized that after a while Parker. Leader roller comment just humor.

That boat is so cool I'm going to buy a pimp hat...

I think you need to take it to the next level and have Stam paint a cock-n-balls logo on the side of your boat for you. That's PIMP! laugh

I tie my rag's with 12lb ultra green leader and a 2/0 hook.I use a 5mm bead between the rag and hook. After I have the bead and head on the leader I cut it down to 26" then put on leader roll, after I tie the knot it puts ya right @ 24".When baiting up my rag where legal to do so I go over board and add a shrimp tail to the hook then use shrimp glo smelly jelly @ the bottom of the rag then douch the whole gig with pro-cure sandshrimp oil. It's all about the shrimp with the rag. When the shrimpy tail fall's off your still fishin and with all that smelly jelly and oil on it you still got bait on.Been doing this for years and have had great results.I've also after many years of using the rag have narrowed it down to just one color skeem to keep it simple, and it works in all water conditions weather murky or gin clear.Good luck,

Seastriker David,

Rags are for saturating with gasoline and huffing... I thought you already knew that.
