Air gun scopes

I finally decided on my Xmas gift, and want to put a scope on my RWS air gun.
Now I read that it's useless to put one on a break barrel gun, because of the inaccuracies. Anybody notice this?

You need to buy a scope made specifically for the break barrel pellet rifles. I own two Webley guns, a Vulcan in .177 and a Patriot in .22. Accurate and deadly out to 45-50 yards. 400+ barn pigeons would disagree on the inaccuracy of an air rifle scope on a break barrel gun. Try http://www.pyramydair.com/ . You will also want a good scope mount, one piece, not a two piece. Your rifle likely has a groove perpendicluar to the barrel in it for a scope stop along the top rail. This keeps the scope base from moving position along the rail, as the recoil impulse is pretty jarring compared to other air rifles like pump and PCP. I use a Beeman 4x scope, and it has worked well for over 15 years.

I'll take your word for it. Below is something I shouldn't have read and just went for it. It really didn't make sense because they now sell all of them with scopes. Thanks.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING MOUNTING SCOPES ON BREAK BARREL AIR RIFLES Break-barrel rifles can be inherently inaccurate when used with a scope. This is because of the design; constantly breaking the barrel can cause droop and the barrel can get loose over time. You never replace the barrel in the exact same spot as it was before. It can be microscopic, but with minute of arc in mind it can make a difference at long ranges.
The way to see this is with using the open sights, because they are attached to the part of the barrel that moves you will have consistent accuracy with those sights. When you mount a scope, it is sighted in relevance to the position of the barrel. Should the position of that barrel stray or loosen over-time, it can cause all kinds of accuracy problems when using the scope. This problem is unavoidable with this style of air gun.

With an RWS or other high quality air rifle (Webley, FWB, Beeman), you should be fine. With a Gamo or any of the other lower quality break barrels the statement is correct. I'm happy with a 1" group at 50 yards with my Webley's, but they shoot better than that.

Nice.
This should improve my "other" rifle shooting as it has went to [censored] the last few years, where the shotgun and open sites has remained stable.
My declining eye site might be a contributor.
Scope stop - noted.

Bullseye
Got a Center Point 4x scope at SportCo Saturday and so far so good as far as the scope jumpin around. Didn't want to buck up the $59 for an RWS one piece scope mount so clerk suggested trying without first and it worked! They were out of scope-stops, but there was a nice big screw sticking up on the gun that I used as a stop when mounting.
My groups are 10X better now with the scope, but I still need to get glasses some day.

Scope-YES, better than iron on anything. However, spring guns cause more havoc than a .270 on a scope. A powder rifle just throws the gun backwards when it kicks. A spring gun slams the scope forward, then backwards, and breaks more scopes (crosshairs). I'd say check warranty info on the scope. Many are airgun rated for heavy springers. I have a Weaver V-16 on my RWS/Diana 54, and had older Leupolds on it beofre that. They rate scopes and have great info at http://www.straightshooters.comTHere are ways to compensate for droop too. Search the threads.
