My buddies and I had our planned springer trip shot down
So we plan to go get some sun and smallmouth at Banks Lake instead. I think I have the smallies dialed in but we would like to have a walleye fish fry', and I know very little about walleye. Any tips would be appreciated.

Very possible Tim. That is how we fished em in Minnesota.

like r2fshn--use a worm harness weighted to bottom slow troll. Tipped with bait night crawler, (minnow and leeches--ck regs).

Mister Twister--lead head jig tipped with bait..bump the bottom. Look for structure--reefs fish along them on the wind blown side and shorelines.

Slip bobber/bait is effective when fishing different depths.

get some wally's and do a shore lunch

Check one of the local walleye boards like NW Walleye.

There's a Walleye tournament 22-23 May at Banks Lake.

I have an offer to go with an old college buddy Brian Henton who does pretty good in the NW tourneys and was hoping to go national.

Stayed at Sun Banks Resort a couple years ago and fished the Wall that was mentioned earlier and had some luck. Stop at Big Wallys in Coulee City and see Rosie and she will sell you a map of the lake with the current hot spots and some of the hot colors of blades that are working. We trolled the bottom walkers and worm harness and caught some nice fish

Dave, you can give Coulee Playland Resort a call to see what is happening. You can also stop at Big Wally's, although Gordon Stienmetz doesn't own it anymore, but he is still guiding as far as I know, and is an excellent source of information. Gordon got me started on Walleye Fishing and thanks to his advice my very first Walleye was in the 8LB range out of the Punch Bowl.

This time of year, the North end of the lake is usually best. The wall across from Coulee Playland, Barkers Cove, Goose Island, and the outside of Steamboat rock can all produce. A lot of the guys in the tournament will be making the run up there. I use worm harnesses, with colorado blades. The key is to locate the right depth and start going through the blades until you find the one they like. Once you locate the fish, then throw out a marker or mark the spot with your GPS and keep trolling through, or switch up to jigs.

Big Wally's or Coulee Playland have a lot of tackle. I like the worms sold at Big Wally's the best. Good luck!
