No need to feel bad about missing a day at the gym after that workout.

Back in the 40's and 50's my dad did that on his commercial boat.

I was to young then to go with him. They used bamboo rods. When the
Tuna were running bigger they used 2 rods and one lure and flipped
them the same was as the video.

I remember seeing b and w videos on tv when I was a kid in the 50's. The fishermen would stand on catwalks close to the water and two pole huge tuna

Man you would have arms like Popeye after a couple months of that! I've also heard from an oldtimer that popcorn works as chum but never tried it.

Wow!!

Definitely a young man's game.
All those gents would be in their 90s if alive.

My Uncle Oren (in his 80s), who took me fishing a bunch as a kid, told me stories of this. He went on a charter that lashed clients to the rail and put them on the catwalk. Must have told me the story 10 times.

Better than "Good Stuff," Doc.

Never seen automated flippin' for tuna before. Check this out.... pretty ingenious! Plus lots the manual version where some of the double handers shoulda been triples.

I was in Christmas Island last week. While there I mentioned this type of tuna fish into my guide, and he said it is still practiced by a few boats in the South Pacific

They still do it off the Orygun coast.

Snapped this pic as these guys trolled up on us while we worked iron. They apologized for coming so close... we thanked them for bringing a $hitton of fish in behind them. They were throwing a buttload of bait over, and when the guys on the back yelled "how many we got?" the Captain barked "Not enough!" rofl
