I saw them in operation in Kamchatka. They really ripped up the bed of a world class river I was fishing. Entertaining, but sad.

The destruction of Kamchatka is running full steam ahead...massive poaching, logging and mining going beserk from reports I have read. Ill bet the mafia played a role in helping keep rich fishermen out of the area lately as they provided first hand reports of the pillaging of one of the last great wilderness areas in the world. Disgusting and not interested in the least to watch that unfold...

about what Rayner did on the rez when i worked there 43 years ago' they yarded logs down the middle of one of the pretties creeks i have ever seen. it was in october or november and salmon and trout went everywhere.

you all need to read the book "reeling in russia" enteresting read to say the least. the writer really expounds in detail the enviromental destruction that occurs all accross that nation. it really is shocking how russia has ZERO! concern for cause and effect.

It's exactly the same type of grub-steaking that existed in this nation under the manifest destiny period that only ended in the last quarter of the 20th century and was only stopped by an act of Congress.
If you consider the devastation caused by the gold rushes, the timber booms, sod busting, the fish-wheels, the hydro projects, King Coal, and just simply the American Culture of Gimme Gimme Now it's easy to say that if it wasn't for Teddy Roosevelt, there wouldn't be a shred left today. Even still every year lobbyists hired by the big trusts spend millions trying to get Congress to open up our Nat'l parks for drilling, mining, & clearcutting.
Even my own dad used to use old dirty motor oil as a brush killer and worn out tires as bonfire starters just as his old man taught him.
We're still waiting for the final butcher's bill Big Oil is going to leave us with.
