I seem to remember the same thing happening to me last year, and I was able to get a winter card printed for me from anywhere that sells licenses (I can't remember the actual place i went to). I also think i remember it didn't cost me anything.

Coho...

When you buy your crab license you are given the option for them to print both summer and winter cards (usually). If you do not have your winter CRC you can get it by going to any place that issues licenses.

They will look up for fishing license ID, then print out your winter card. Then it is time to crab!

By the way, does anyone remember when the winter crab season opened last year?

It seems to me that they started early in November last season. This year is mid November (15th). I wish it was earlier at any rate. The wind is nasty in December.

Yeah I do the online check in as well. Takes all of five minutes to punch it all in.

I wonder what percentage of people sent their data in on the web versus mail. It seems like they could turn out the crab season faster if people submitted electronically. Either way we have about three more weeks to wait. lame

Thanks for the stats!

It does seem that a majority did submit electronically. But only a 51% report overall though. And no system will be perfect anyway.

I waited until the last second, however since I payed 10.00 for failing to report my hunting tag last season. I figured I would learn from that experience and save 40.00 on the summer crab CRC's

Nice to see those CRC reporting numbers coming up and particularly for the winter season now that folks are advised of their option (and liability if they take a winter card and don't report).

Has WDFW come up with a target minimum return rate that they want to achieve? So far it seems we are being told to do better (and we should!) but at some point the increasing rate of return will begin to drop off as a percentage of CRCs issued. Is 50% sufficient statistically? Again, if not, then what percentage?

And it is clear that those of us who crab 8-1 & 8-2 will have to wait until next year for a winter season.

Which is why a sample of participants is a more reliable estimator.

The current honor system assumes we place honor above self-interest.

Yikes! 90-95%!! I'd like to own and be able to operate a 40 foot sport fisher but that isn't going to happen either.

Agree that some folks simply don't trust the Government (WDFW) with any data but there are also those who simply forget to do it, are traveling during the window of opportunity, have moved out of State, or have become incapacitated or died after issuance and before reporting.

A return of 75% may be possible. Those who failed to report will be hit in 2011 with the $10 penalty which may provide a reality check for 2011 returns but after that increases will become incrementally harder to achieve.

For what its worth WDFW's target should be based upon statistical needs and also be reasonably achievable. Otherwise there will be a great deal of angst in the future.
