I'm wondering if there are any lakes in western Wash. that hold crappie. I have never fished for them before but hear they are excellent eating and would like to give them a try. The only problem is that I live in Kitsap county and don't know where are near me. Any help would be appreciated.

Silver Lake at Castle Rock. Big crappies, bluegill, bass, etc. You get the point. But, you do need a boat. Shouldn't be to far from Gig Habor.

Thanks for the help. I also hear that they can be tricky to catch depending on the time of year and water temp. Is this true? Is this a good time of year to find/catch them? Any other tips?

Thanks again.

Actually, crappie can be caught anytime. You just need to know where to fish the lake. In general, when the water temperature gets hot (in the summer) the fishing is better. Also the month of september seems to be the best month. There is a guide on that lake that could take you crappie or bass fishing. Don't know if this is something your interested in, but he'll terach you a lot. Hope this helps.

shocked Try Jackson lake over by Key Center. I did not catch any there but I was right next to a guy pulling them in left and right near a big brush pile. Just hook up a colored jig and put a worm, maggot, minnow, or grub on it. Here are some articles on crappies.

If you really want to catch them, the guide mentioned above told me you can catch 700 a day during Sept and Oct at Silver Lake. Big ones. His name is Roger Luce - but he is on sabbatical this year and is fishing instead of guiding. There are some other lakes on the other side of the bridge that are good for crappies as well. Spanaway, Ohop, Kapowsin, etc.
Good luck. I just started going after crappies myself.
