i have my new flyrod and reel for bonefishing.....but when the waves are up and its 5mph offshore wind...i set the rod down and grab my board. i shot this footage this morning from my GoPro on my head
Merg, Those go pros are sweet. You ever mount one on the front of your board? Waves look great except I'd rather be going right, I don't like those lefts being a regular footer.
I agree with you though, as someone who recently picked up surfing about 2 years ago, its addicting. Theres days when I'd much rather go out and surf on my off day then go fishing..

nice name boss....i only fish with knuckbusters as well. i dont like the view from the board. alll though im going to get the 99$ go pro for a second view on my board to mix it up in the videos.
i spent the better part of 6 hours finding out how to edit the movies once they came off the camera.
this link is the brainchild of 6 hours staring at the computer screen on google I use this way to edit them. Not the best...but it works for now. I have a laptop with a little more juice then my current one that i just picked up cheap and im going to buy software that can just edit the darn things as the H.264 MP4 format the camera saves it in. You just need ALOT of computing power for HD stuff and Up to date video cards. Everyone complains about editing and having to buy software. but at the most expensive, 300$, your getting studio quality ( 5 diffeent settings of studio quality) HD 1080p video....doing your xtreme sport. who the hell cares if you need a good (100$ or so) editing program to edit the videos? yoru still thousands ahead of the game compared ( in my sports case) to a 1200$ underwater housing and a 2000$ dollar camera. So i love it to death.

Thanks MT. I have the naked go pro and have played around with it but not enough. Your bare bones solution looks good. Have you looked at Pinnacle Studio HD? I have not used it yet. Link: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...tudio+HD+14.htm

I just got a go pro for xmas and am in the same boat as you doc. What I do is use AVS video converter to change the format from MP4 to Mpeg 2, I havn't found a software program yet that will edit mp4 files. Once I convert it I edit the clips in Pinnacle studio, It's a simple program thats easy to use and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I'd stay from sony vegas pro ten unless your already an advanced film editor, it's a beast of a program but not the most user freindly. Alot of people I spoke with also recommended adobe premier elements.
And Mergantroider, I just moved back to WA from Huntington Beach last year and I'm gonna have to say that your priorities are in perfect order!!!

how about a whole lot less pansy surf talk and a whole lot more surfer girl footage. merg it's friggen cold here in the areas of the PNW. we could really use skimpy skin on boards video. just saying.

I have this savings account that I use for toys. This spring I have to make a decision between a Traeger Grill or getting a SUP. It is going to be a tough call. I like the SUP idea, because here in WA being out of the water will allow you to wear a lot lighter suit, then again Traegers are awesome.
I have a Hurley 6/5/4 and it feels like wearing a suit of armor. I hate it.
Also, most SUPs, come with a mast bolt insert so you can slap a sail on it when the waves are blown out. This would mean I could go to the beach with one board and have fun no matter what. Which is important since, I really can't plan my life around conditions, mostly just around work/family/etc. Plus I already have a bunch of windsurfing gear.

two things. Dont you dare say that anything having to do with surfing is a young mans sport. Kelly Slater is pushing 40 and STILL winning WOLRD TITLES. My chiropractor (Dr. Rob Harris) is Over 40 and rips HARDER than most people i know. The two oldest men ive seen surfing were 80 years on a longboard and 72 on a stand up.
Now that being said i will say that surfing is and always will be an "in shape " or "likes to excercise" "or can excercise without dying" persons game. If your getting soggy around the midsection , or youve kept your christmas weight...from '82...then yes you are going to have more difficulty. Easily solved with ANY exercise.90% of what Kelly mostly does, is strength yoga and resistance/ball excercises for his fitness. no gym, no weights. Or just go out and surf. SUP is ALOT of Core and leg balancing. some lunges and a few sit-ups and your golden.
number two is for Rocket Red. Your question has an answer. What will you get the most use and pleasure out of.... do you find yourself 3 (or more) times a week wnting to go out and paddle board? Do you live close or are willing to drive the distance to use the paddle board? Do you have a friend/partner to paddle with? a few very important questions. If you said "no" to any of these my two cents would be to ....get the grill. Unless you live somewhere where its feasible to go on a whim ( the mother of all needs when it comes to a hobby) it will probably collect dust brutha
