Not surprising. Louis C.K. has a great skit on the church and this very topic. When you have a preacher standing at the alter saying that raping boys is like an alcoholic falling off the wagon you have to really wonder about their thought process.

I question any Catholic that is still following the central church (which is virtually a requirement if you're Catholic). You have to be naive to the point of a flatliner to believe that the top didn't know what was going on. They not only knew, they effectively condoned it.

On the brighter side of things, this probably still isn't the most egregious thing the Catholic church has done.

Let's see, the Vatican opposes homosexuality, gay rights, and gay marriage, but supports Priest pedophilia? UnF'nbelieveable! I'm almost sorry I'm not Catholic so that I could quit the Church.
