Hmmm Might be because they know OncyT is right, if wasn't for the hatcherys there wouldn't be enough left for any impact including the dam's. Fed's don't want to go there now do they.

Might ask yourself why is any fishing allowed on a ESA listed stock? As one of bio buddys pointed out it's the only thing thats listed thats allowed to be hunted/fished.

One thing is for sure...if we were talking about eagles, there'd be an allowable impact of "zero"...and those who killed ONE would go to jail...same with other critters that are on the ESA.

Salmon/steelhead are the only ones we are allowed to kill, and actually allowed to use their eggs for bait to catch more of them...anyone wonder why the conservation/preservation community doesn't see us as a partner in this?

Most of the true conservation people are battling hydro knowing that the only reason we are allowed to fish is the feds don't want to be the only one's breaking the law.

Remember that the conservation groups opposed the gillnet ban that almost passed a few years ago. What kind of mental gymanastics did that position require?

There's no doubt in my mind that sportfishing on the Columbia has its roots in the "let's get our biggest detractors on board" arena...
