Buddy of mine wants to go camping this weekend and wanted to fish the Entiat river. Regs a bit confusing as they only list a whitefish season. anyone know what the regs are for trout? After reading and rereading, it sounds like the river is closed for everything but whitefish below the Entiat falls. any help?

Pretty sure it's closed for all trout/salmon/steelhead fishing, since everything in the river except for whitefish is on the ESA list...

Occasionally they'll have "emergency openings" if the runs are good. I think two years ago they opened it up for Steelhead when there was that good run of hatchery brats moving up the Columbia.

For up to the date fishing regulations it's always good to check the WDFW website.

I don't think it matters where you plan to fish over there. Most those rivers won't be fishing very well from all the snow melt.... Better off camping/fishing a lake.

he is not a salmon or steelhead guy. Montana guy used to fishing trout out of the nice creeks they have there. Not a fly fisherman either, more a mepps spinner type of dude.

The regs are the same as last year.

From 97 up the canyon the Entiat is closed to fishing including whitefish which is closed this time of year. They had an opening for kings last year ---but not open this year as far as I know.

You have a few options below 97 but no trout fishing like you are looking for.

If you and your buddy push back the camping and fishing trip one weekend then it is open for trout above the falls.

LL is spot on. The Entiat was my favorite "trout" stream growing up. I learned alot of my outdoor skills on that creek, and have wnderful memories from the early 70's through the late 90's. The salmon hatchery is a joke, and according to the local "old timers" I knew, it never was a bountiful steelhead river (FWIW).
