Last night I noticed my my 3 year old Golden retriever seemed to be in some distress. When I went to check him out I found that he had a fairly large hot spot on the inside of his hind leg. He has never had this problem before, I think it was caused by him getting wet the other day when we were at the park. Got caught in a very heavy rain storm. I tried to clean it up and put some Hydrocortisone cream on it. Seemed to help. I'm trying to avoid a emergency trip to the vet as my finances are very tight at this time. If he still seems to be having trouble We will have to go to the vet. Anyone have any home remedys that might help? I would be thankful for any information. thanks Jay Pea

Above is all good advise. I would also treat with an antiseptic/antibiotic ointment. I would NOT be in a rush to get to the vet. I'm betting it will get better soon. Pretty sure it's not life threatening.

there is a foam spray made for this. Cut the hair back in the area. The Vet would shave it. I always cleaned with Hydrogen peroxide and then applied the the foam. Hot Spot something?

JP,
Golden's seem to have a lot of skin issues. I know mine sure did.
Just a suggestion. Buy a lampshade collar that goes around the dogs neck. The key is to stop them from continually licking the
affected area so it can dry out and heal. They'll want to keep licking even after you treat it and you can't watch them every moment of the day.

Good luck with your dog.

Suck out the poison, I mean rub in some aloe vera and add the cone of shame. They look so pathetic wearing the cone.

Yeah..sounds like swimmer's itch. Many farm stores sell veterinary supplies pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the help. Wife freaked out her baby was going to die. Ended up going to the vet, steroid shot antibiotic pills and some kind of spray. Got out much cheaper than I thought 150$ Now wears the cone of shame when I'm unable to watch him. On the way to full recovery . Funny how they react to the cone, When he wears it he lays like he is dieing, take it off and he seems perfectly normal. thanks again okbye JP
