Everybody from out of the area likes Leavenworth. Would help to have more idea of where you are coming from, what you like to do, etc.

WA as a winter vacation destination hasn't hit the big time yet. How old are your kids? Do you/they ski? Better states for skiing, but there's no accounting for taste. Do you and your family fish for winter steelhead? Winter blackmouth? If none of these, you're screwed. Most WA residents take their winter vacations (except steelheading and blackmouth for some) to places more southerly like the SW states, Mexico, or Hawaii.

Little kids, to young to ski. More interested in seeing some history or interesting things in this state. I know winter isn't the best but it is the only time off I have.

Lived here all my life but yet there are places I have never been, like Mount Rainier.

The San Juans will be just about tourist free then. You will have great scenery, interesting small towns, and a bit of history to boot. Spend some time in Roche Harbor then wander down to Friday Harbor. For sure the weather will be chilly and most likely wet but the San Juans will be drier than most other western Washington destinations.

Read up on the Pig War and the McMillan family at Roche harbor. Be sure to hike to the Mcmillan Mausoleum.

MOHI, inner tubing at Snoqualmie, day trip to Shi Shi beach, snoqualmie falls. Winter storms on the coast can be pretty entertaining.
