My sons (4 and6) have been begging me to take them fishing. They and I haven't fished much before. From reading this forum and the lake reports, it seems that Lake Goodwin is a good place to take them because of the successes reported. However, it seems everyone fished with a boat; we don't have one. So I'd like to ask for tips on fishing there from the shore or dock. What kind of bait and techniques should we use? When to go? etc.

We live close to Martha Lake in Lynnwood, but I'm not sure how good the fishing is there. I'd like to maximize our chances, so I'm thinking of Goodwin. Should I just try Martha Lake anyway?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about that lake, but I've been taking my 3 boys to some lakes around monroe armed with bobbers and worms. Just cast out by some lilly pads or log structure and you should find some panfish. We've had pretty good results. But having a boat and a fish finder can help locate schools of perch...

Lake Ki is an outstanding producer. However the water is very warm. So the fish are in the deeper portions of the lake. Go to topo map portion on washingtonlakes.com and you can see where the deeper water is.

When the lake open in the spring, I have done as well from the shore as I have done in a small dinghy.

I have a friend who lost a fish to a bald eagle one evening about a 1 1/2 ago there.

Martha Lk is a little tweeky and can be much more challenging to get some hook-ups.

Do you hate logging? Then try using plastic toilet paper...
