My idea is about 5 lbs and up. I don't include triploids as trophy trout as they are bred to be big.

I agree with Bill. I would also say that a lot more than weight goes into my idea of a trophy. Coloring, build, is all just as important to me. A 3 pound native will always be more special than a 10 pound trip.

it kind of depends on where your at too, on the elwha river i know a trophy is 16+ inches, for a src 20+, then u get to a cresent beardslee and its like 5 or 6 lbs, so really it depends on the territory

Depends on where you are fishing. At Henrys lake its 10 lbs. At Island Park its 5 lbs.. At most places you have no real idea because you let it go.

i think my trophy trout was only about 12 inches. it was a brown trout caught on the ruby river in montana. it was the toughest fish for me to catch. i caught it on a fly and it took about 1 hour to get it to bite. but a trophy for me is the hunt then the fight and the way it looks. and the brown was one gorgous fish.

Go back to the fins-n-feathers forum. slap

Real fishermen don't wear tweed and carry gay little baskets. shoot

Anyhoo...I consider anything over a pound and a half to be a possible keeper, but if I caught a three pounder, I'd prolly have it mounted.

By your standards, I've never come close to a trophy trout. On the tiny streams up in the Cascades where I fish, 14 inches is enormous and extremely rare.

I guess they'd be bigger in a lake.

Yea they are bigger in a lake when they are stocked then in a mountain stream/alpine lake...But they aren't usually as colorful when they are stockers

Why in your mind does bait not count salmosalar...If this poll was in the fins and feathers forum, bait wouldn't count, but in this forum, bait counts. And bait fisherman aren't "silly trappers" so YES bait DOES count last I checked. If trophy's don't count if they are caught by bait then you might as well take off 99% of the washington sportfishing records salmosalar...

My trophy trout would be the one eluding my capture 4 times... There 1 trout in Beaver Lake that I hook into every 10 days or so at the same exact spot. First 3 times, he's on for a minute before a jump or two later, spits the hook. Last time, got him to my float tube, reach out with the net, and accidently hit him just so that he comes off the hook. I was in shock for a second, and he was winded so he was kind of floating there. Regained composure, tried to grab him, but he flicked his tail and was gone.

Yup... still lots of big ones in there... Hopefully the little ones will have a chance to grow up as big as their brothers and sisters...

Yea some of those little planters do need a little bit of length and weight...But there are still triploids to be caught out there? I might have to give it a try soon....
