Want to fish for trout, don't have a boat (am open to inexpensive rowboat rental if available). Am visiting from CA and fished Central Oregon on the way up (great!). I have spinning rod and flyrod setups. Planning to head to Juanita Beach this afternoon since it's nearby, but my daughter and I want to explore other nearby lakes/streams so she can continue fishing after I leave... Any suggestions are appreciated! (if there are campgrounds, so much the better, in case we decide to stay!). Been reading washingtonlakes.com and looks like American Lake in Tacoma area is pretty good... but all I read is about where to go in one's boat. Thanks

American would be a good bet for you. The fish are biting right now and they have boat rentals available on the lake.

Lake Washington from the shore will produce fish at any park/dock really...I use light tackle with a worm dropped down right under a dock or a bobber casted out and I just have a nice day of Perch and Bluegill fishing and an occasional bass to make it fun....But you can't go wrong with American Lake either from what I have heard...

When you visit Bill's boathouse for the rental be sure to mention you heard about them from this web site. They are one of our sponsors and due to renew.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. Did go to American - everyone was getting their limit right on the dock at Bill's. We rented a rowboat to get the 'lake' experience and did catch a few nice trout. Returned them.

This morning I caught my biggest fish ever - a huge bass - off the dock at Juanita Beach. Not another bite before or after, used an orange rooster tail(?) spinner and reeled him in. Had to pull the line up with my hands since I had a lightweight line and pole and was afraid it would break. Landed him on the dock and when I bent down to pick him up (no net) he flopped off and broke my line, took off with my spinner still in his mouth! He was a real keeper, a fattie, too. I don't know how, but I got two pics of him dangling in the water before I brought him in.

I actually did mention to Bill's that I found his place on this website so hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for the responses.
