Oh I understand the collector value aspect of them but some guys seem to think that's all they can catch wild steelhead on. If that's what gives someone confidence though and they're buying them to fish them, that's all that matters I guess.

I agree with Drew. Besides, before the okie or the corkie came out, guys were killing em on just cured eggs and spoons. Thanks to them and Native American nets, we now have few native steelhead.

I caught my first steelhead on an Okie and egg combo. Okies were cheap and plentiful then. In the years since, no one has been able to invent a lure that steelhead won't hit, which has been great for the tackle business and continues to demonstrate the gullibility of steelhead fishermen. Actually, that is the thing steelhead and the people who fish for them have in common. They will hit/buy anything.

They don't work, anyway...and after using them for about 30 years, I've never once heard anyone say...ever...that they are the only lure that will catch a wild steelhead. Ever.

They will, however, work just fine...and using a piece of PNW steelhead history while fishing is way cool.

FWIW, that fish hit that Okie after already catching seven fish out of the run, on spoons, then worms...and going twenty minutes without a bite...one cast with the Okie and back in bidness.

YMMV...

Fish on...

Todd

P.S. When fishing for steelhead I use stuff from my own company 95% of the time...the other 5% I use an Okie Drifter wink
