Decided to hit one of my favorite lakes today since the wind direction was correct. Snowing pretty hard on the drive up.
It never really warmed up all day, but there was a good hatch going when I hit the water at 9:00 and got stronger throught the day.
I pumped the first fish I caught. Lots of of different size bloodworms and small size 16 black chironomids. Nice day on the water and called it quits at 2:00.
Most fish came fishing 16' deep in 17' of water. A few fish were rising but not worth throwing dries at them.

Ended up with over a dozen fish, with the largest fish pushing 20"
If we get some warmer weather the hatches should really take off. Here are a few pics from today.

I have been waiting for warmer weather for the fishing to pick up. I have been fishing ponds and smaller lakes from the toon a lot recently and just getting into the whole bug rod thing.
what are you fishing from by the way?

DD,
Those are small chironomids.

Mike,
I fish out of a 8' raft this time of the year to stay out of the cold water.
I built a floor for it so I can stand up which really helps when casting 20' + long leaders for fishing deep water.

Thats a cool idea making a floor. I'll bet it makes fishing from a raft a ton better.

The darker beasts looked like they had feet developing.

Cool stuff. I know exactly which lake you were on.... Most of the fish this time of the year are right on the bottom.... Last time I was out there a few weeks ago it was tough fishing, looks like it's picking up and I need to make a trip out there....
