96 bucks for combo fishing license, CR endorsement, and Discover Pass.

LMWS gets by with another freebie for 2012.

I just kept rationalizing it to myself, "Hey that's only 48 bucks apiece."

In the great grand scheme of things, 33 bucks for a DP ain't gonna amount to a hill of beans. Still sucks that they charge it, though.

Just called WDFW Region 6 Office, here what I was told:

Discovery Pass......Good at all State Parks, WDFW Fishing and Hunting Areas and Dept. of Natural Resources area. All boat launches, either at WDFW owned sites or launches in State Parks.

The "sticker" you get when you buy a fishing license....Is ONLY good at Boat launches that are WDFW owned launches. So that tells me, that Fuller Bridge, Porter, Satsop's 2 launches, Wynoochee's 2 launches, Humptulips launches, South Montesano.....the Discovery Pass IS NOT NEEDED.

True.

I can afford it. That's not the issue.....it's the principle. I try to fly under the radar through life and my feathers aren't easily ruffled

BUT

....this really chaps my [Bleeeeep!]. I pay WAAAAYY more in fees for those same lands via my other forms of recreation(in excess of $100 total) yet Joe Schmoe gets the same priveleges for the cost of a Discover Pass......and I'm still on the hook for an additional DP above and beyond the other fees I already pay? I'll stop there. My blood pressure's rising. mad

Exactly! Beat me to it. As far as the WDFW launches in the Harbor, those discover pass required signs aren't new. I've seen them posted since the pass went into law. It was also publicized pretty well that WDFW access passes were good in lieu of the DP at Dept. launches/lands.

What's funny was the sign saying a Discover Pass was required at Mission Bar on the Cowlitz. Not sure if it's still there or not, but Tacoma Power owns the property. Pretty cool scam to put up a sign requiring your parking pass on someone else's property. Kind of like posting "No Trespassing" on land you don't own.

Anything for a buck.........

Or, in the case of the DP, $2.40.

Well, I'm confused about this whole issue with WDFW and the DP. I was under the impression that when you bought a fishing/hunting lic. you got a pass to park on WDFW lands while hunting/fishing. Is that not so??? If not, then what use is the pass you get from them with your license. I know I'm dense, but help please!!!!! ???

navigator, that is so...your license comes with a parking pass to park on WDFW lands, and use boat launches on WDFW lands...but not all state lands are WDFW lands, nor are all boat launches on WDFW lands.

For those that aren't, you need a Discover Pass.

<=didn't buy one last year, isn't buying one this year.

P.S. For those that aren't WDFW lands, and *are* state lands, like land owned by DNR, or State Parks, or whatever.

Well, that's what I thought it said, and I also didn't buy one last year, and don't plan on buying one this year. Thanks Todd!!!

I really didn't want to buy one as I'm pretty sure most of the ramps I frequent are WDFW owned, but I figured if it prevented even just one ticket at a non WDFW site, it was worth not having to hassle with it.

It's how I deal with most gov't-imposed BS in both my personal and professional life.... just keep on taking it, fearing the consequences later could be worse.

Gov't counts on that attitude way more than folks would care to admit. Yeah, I'm one the suckers willingly volunteering for another dose of BOHICA.

Not trying to fan flames, but to those of you that refuse to buy a DP, where is the money going to come from to maintain and operate the recreation facilities that we use? The legislature pulled the money that funded these areas and went to a user pay approach, which makes sense to me. Without the DP, these areas would eventually be shut down and we would have nothing. I don't mind dishing out thirty bucks to camp for free or launch for free. How much do you guys pay every time you launch your boat in the salt? $10? I pay that at La Push to use that junky old ramp. To me it seems reasonable that those of us using the stuff should help pay for it. Just my. 02

I don't go to places where a Discover Pass is required, where my WDFW parking pass won't apply...and I find "dishing out thirty dollars" to not be "free to camp or launch"...I find it to be...thirty dollars.

If you use it, you should pay.

Fish on...

Agreed Todd...Thirty dollars is thirty dollars and is certainly not free. I just meant you essentially have access to free camping and launching once you make the initial investment. Your last statement sums up my whole point. If you use it, you should pay.

I have not been there to check it out but how can the state deem the off road parking out by the crab bar to be state property?
We are talking parking just off the shoulder with just enough room to get off the fog line. How can this be deemed state park lands?

i don't think that funding state parks with the discover pass is going to work any better than the optional $5 on your license plates. most seem to be dilapidated relics from the new deal era that are in need of major repairs.

needing the pass to access all dnr lands is just a money grab. most of those areas aren't really maintained any more than is necessary for logging to go on, and i believe that logging funds a big chunk of that.

that said, i might actually buy one this year, as there are some dnr areas that i like to visit.
