I saw this on another board and liked the concept, so I thought I give it a try. Here are the first two I tied. They came out ok, but still need some tweaking.
The pattern gives you two eyes to tie on to. A straight eye if you want to fish it more like a conventional streamer and the 60 degree jig eye if you want more up and down action.

I tied the straight eye to long on the first one. I only had small skulls on hand. I need to get some bigger skulls with larger slots. I can then push the skull further back on the pattern to hid all the wraps and use a bigger straight hook eye.
Any suggestions you might offer are always appreciated.
Thanks
SF

Those skulls look cool. Where can I get them and what is the weight of the pattern? I've made some similar on 1/16 and 1/8 oz jig heads which my spey rod will punch out ok with an indicator. These look more fishy than just a round jig head. The action in the water should be about the same.

Those skulls are pretty handy. The more I use them, the more I like them. The big downside is the cost. Even with a bit of a discount, they still come in quite a bit more expensive than than the old standby, the cone. That having been said, they save quite a bit of time, and for most, time is money, and so maybe it all balances out?

Lookin pretty good to me Stonefish.

I just want to know how you got the second eye on there. They look great, give me plenty to think about.

Interesting concept to have two locations to tie the tippet to. The skull heads sure look more realistic than coneheads or dumbell eyes. Coupled with the jig hook they should produce a very good wounded baitfish action.

Coley gave me a few skull streamers he tied last year, and they thing I notice most about them is that they are heavy for a single hand rod. A 10 wt or Spey rod works best for all but the smallest size skulls. The local fly shop guy here uses the small ones on streamers for SRC in the sound.

SteelieBob,
You can buy the Fish Skulls at most fly shops. I'd think Cabelas, Wholesale Sports or the fly shop in Olympia would carry them.

F4A,
I used the shank of a hook I cut off to make the straight eye. I tied and super glued it on to the shank of the jig hook.

I think success has no rules, but you can learn a lot from failure.
