So I've fished out of La Push for about 15 years, mostly salmon but about 5 years ago got into offshore halibut and lings. Until Saturday I thought I had it dialed in pretty well but we really struggled until the afternoon when the bite seemed to pick up and we limited out fast once it did. Question I had (and has been in my mind for a while) is I hear about guys going out to the "prarie". Generally speaking, where is that? Not looking for numbers or anything, just curious if that's in the middle of the C or across the canyon or somewhere else altogether. Thanks in advance.

It's a ling hole with a few Hali's too. I believe it's a few miles Nw of the SW corner.

Look for 400 foot of water. I'm just a boat Ho, so I don't have #s.

Good Luck

You weren't the only ones. A lot of boats struggled out there on Saturday.

It was good early and it picked up again late. It took us 30 minutes to limit the boat on halibut Thursday. IIRC it took us over 5 hours Saturday.

When i was running a troller out of Neah Bay and La Push in the 70'sand 80's the big flat area between Juan De Fuca Canyon and the drop off of the continental shelf was referred to as the prairie. The blue dot is the shallowest spot and the huge area of 40-50 fathoms is the "prairie". If you are going for halibut look for sandy bottom around rock piles.

Thanks fellas. I had been studying my plotter and that's what I was thinking but just wanted confirmation. It was so flat Saturday and the fishing at the corner had died off so much that I wanted to make a run of it but not sure exactly where to go. Should have gone exploring. Next time...

So somewhere like the waypoints on the left of this screen shot?

Thanks again.

It was a lil slow for the boat I was on, but we limited Friday, Saturday & picked up 8 Lings Sunday.

Just depended if you were c&r ing the small ones.

I missed Thursday, my buddies took a beating but got 1 butt and 1 ling.
