We arrived on a wet snowy day and soon learned that the river was at roughly 1300 CFS. Normal is about 300. We were seriously bummed. But when life gives you lemonaid you go halibut fishing.

Danny wasted no time hooking into a biggun.

Then we caught a nice wolf.

And a few lings

And we did a few hero shots back at the dock. 171 pounds in case you were wondering.

Steelhead portion later tonight after I get unpacked.

Hint it was bad, fair then great.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

This is seriously one of the coolest fishing pics I've ever seen.

Damn that is a lotta groceries. Looks like the butts are well fed in that neighborhood. BFD, living up to the moniker yet again. Very nice photos Dave. Keep up the good work.

Awesome stuff Dave. I'm now craving halibut and chips after eating nothing but snapper for two weeks.

Thanks Stoner and everyone else! Unfortunately, I was also workin' a flu bug that I got the very day I arrived (and sill have). sick

I never caught a halibut nor targeted them before. Immediately after I winched that thing in I leaned over in the hurled position then looked up and said; "Is that a good one?" grin On the other hand, I have caught lots of lings and I wanted a big one. The ling in the pic was over the 55" mark which we were aloud one that size but I'm glad to say she went back for the gene pool. Not sure the weight but it doesn't really matter as it was far and away the largest ling I have ever caught, let alone seen in person. Rockfish were so plentiful in Erics (the captain) spot, they filled the fish finder screen. As soon as the darts dropped, it turned into a bloody rockfish mayhem for about twenty minutes until all 6 clients had their limit! I've never seen a captain juggle like that before. Everyone was also aloud 1 ling which were easily acquired as well. Seems like the average ling was in the 15-20 pound neighborhood. Besides the fact that I was running a burning hot fever and a sore throat with the shakes to boot, it was far and away the best saltwater bottom fishing I have ever seen, period.

I can't wait to get back with my wife and share the best fast paced bottom fishing I've ever witnessed. What's also really cool about the place is the laid back Alaskan attitude. Everyone who works there is helpful and wants to make sure the experience is stellar one (despite your sick condition)!

Thank you Rick, Pete (not Beet sick), Cody, Eddie and all the staff. Special thank you to Dave for taking me and putting up with my under the weather personality the whole trip. You da man Dave! thumbs

There is an internationally known male/female pair on Hunt Rock, out of Port Hardy, that will leave their den to greet you on your descent. I have some old Kodachrome slides I shot of "Hunter" and Huntress" wrapped around a bud as he held his reg in one hand and gave Huntress a big kiss on the cheek with his other hand on her opposite cheek.

Pretty amazing to have such a big set of jaws resting on your bare palm whilst you slowly scratch with your finger tips, and they respond by shifting position to get *that* spot. If they had hind legs like man's best friend, one would be scratching right along with you....

'Course, I like pitbulls too.... wink

Dave, as per usual, thanks for sharing the great pixels and prose!

Danny- So glad you enjoyed yourself! It was fun. Have a great summer on the water, now that you're warmed up.

They always have one of those Wolf Eels tied up by the tail at Pike Place Fish. It is so funny to watch the tourists jump when they play out a little slack. Hell, I usually jump too wink .
