four piece, 79"
I picked this up at a garage sale today for $25. The finish is shot/gone/kaput, the ferrells all seem to be in reasonably good shape and has all the original eyes. I'm guessing it is designed for no more than a 5 wt line, possibly 4 or maybe even 3 weight. Reel seat and cork seem to be good.
The only reason I bought it is because I figured it needed better care than it has had (understated).
Is anybody interested in refurbishing this old classic?

I'm not familar with Woodstream......yes, it is the old brown blank with the ferrilite ferrels.
I would think that a hiker/tuber small fish chaser would be all over this.

The old man I bought it from said he has caught silvers on it, but I think that is stretching its use. smile

Slab,

Is it 7' 9" or 7' 6"? I'm familiar with the Fenwick ferrulite 4-piece 7'6" 6 wt. as I have one. I don't recall the fiberglass rod series including a 7' 9" fly rod, although there was an extremely popular casting/spinning rod of that length. Maybe the ferrules aren't fitting snug, and the rod is measuring longer than it should? Or maybe there was a model I don't remember. I only recall Fenwick making two models in 4-piece, the 7 1/2 and 8 1/2' foot models, both in 6 wt as pack rods.

79 inches is 6 1/2 feet... has it been broken before Slab?

I wondered that myself, as the tip is distinctly shorter that the other three sections, but the eyes don't appear to be spaced incorrectly and the tip when assembled seems to be just fine. So the short answer is I really don't know.....that is why I posted it's length.
I remember having a Fenwick FS 79 that I won in a skeet shooting contest, so I thought perhaps that figure was a common one for Fenwick. I just have to shrug my shoulders.....don't know.

the FS 79 is a 7' 9" rod, not a 79 inch rod, if that is what you where saying?

i think, im not sure, but almost sure, that all 4 sections are supposed to be equal lengths...

it sounds like a foot was busted off of it, as it should be a 7' 6" rod like Salmo stated...

wanna throw up some pictures?

Thanks for the input. I drug out the tape and measured the sections. Each is 22" unassembled. If all were the same originally, then it's unassembled length would have been 88" or 7' 4"......so I'm guessing that it's original length was a 7' rod and the tip has been shortened by about 5 inches. I'll throw up a pic in a bit.

Well, now that I know what the deal is, I guess I'll have to fix it up myself. I was going to pass it along to whoever was interested in doing the work for what I had into it, but I guess no one but me would bother to mess with this. Oh well, I'll have fun with it.

Slab, read the writing near where it says Feralite.. there should be a model, or specs written...

I tried to do that ...... not readable. But it doesn't matter. I'm sure that we've got it nailed down. The tip was broken at some point and the tip eye replaced. I've refinished rods before, but it's been some time ago...I'll just clean it up and recoat it and call it good. I'll use it for crappie, blue gill, perch, etc. if no one wants to mess with it.

The natural color will all come back with a fresh coat of rod lacquer.
