I am going to try and make it over to Brewster to see what it's like.

I got Sockeye yesterday and today, and probably will tomorrow and the next day. I also have a good supply of Kings and Steelhead in front of the house.

So it's hard to fit in more fishing.

This evening Brewster was like "we hooked seven sockeye in about 90 minutes"...then it got dark. I suspect tomorrow will be like "we have 12 dead sockeye in our fish box"...and then we'll go have breakfast.

Fish on...

Last year on opening day at Baker we had 8 in the box by 6:30 in the morning, but there were far more fish in the lake when it opened last year due to the later date.

Last Saturday I got to the lake at 10:30 (slept in after my buddies canceled to go fish for Kings on the Sky), got a camp site on the far side of the lake and then started fishing. Had three by 1:30

My first hookup last Sat was a double, it was a bit of a scramble to land both by myself, not pretty, but it worked.

Then I got a text from my daughter saying her car broke down in Olympia and she needed a ride home. I put the boat back on the trailer and headed for Olympia, picked her up and got home at midnight. Woke up at 2:30 AM and headed back to the lake with a couple other guys, we were met by instant hookups (lost), wind, rain, lightning, thunder, fog, more fish, then called it a day early. The thunder was loud and close, you couldn't see the lightning easily due to the rain and cloud cover.

I will be back there this evening, the forecast looks like more rain and thunder, should be a nice night. Lots of bear sign near camp too, last year other campers near us saw the bear but we didn’t.

Sockeye tend to be willing biters.

Another pile of sockeye this morning, and a bonus Chinook...a few more to go to get our limit later this evening, gonna do a little filleting and vacuum sealing, and take a nap! That 4am wakeup came pretty early this morning.

Fish on...

The only pics I'd have would be pics of a cooler stuffed with vacuum packed fillets.

I did think of you this morning, however, when there was an epic double rainbow over the river during a massive thunderstorm wink

Speaking of doubles...we had three of them this morning on our way to getting our twelve sockeye in about two hours.

More if you count fish being hooked just as we're dropping the first fish into the bag...

Going to take some major scrubbing to get all that blood out of my sled.

We had 2 doubles on our way to limits this morning, not the same limit you have, but still fun.

Obviously the commercial fishermen didn't leave enough sockeye* cuz I didn't have boat limits every day by 7:30. In fact I didn't get boat limits any day. But we got fish, and they do BBQ nicely. Had about as much fun as is possible while sitting on my butt driving my boat around dragging flashy stuff slowly thru the water waiting for the rod tip to bounce, except Friday. Friday was thunder, lightning, and torrential rain at times. Ah, but a fisherman has to get a little rain in the face some times.

Drew, was that you driving the drift boat around in circles out off Noisy Creek yesterday? If so, how'd you do?

Sg

* cuz it couldn't a been that I couldn't find the dam things.

Sockeye on the BBQ again tonite with fresh crab louie on the side. Got to love the PNW this time of year!

I was there yesterday but I was in my buddies sled. We went 3 for 5. I myself landed one and lost the next two. They sure are scrappy little guys! they're out of the water cartwheeling before you can get the rod off the rigger. My fennwick FS79C plays those fish pretty well. I plan on hitting it with the wife this Sunday in the drift boat though.
