It is all the fault of the bush admin. We just followed what the previous admin set up. We had not had a chance to do the accounting as we were so busy in the last three years.

Wait, Wait, Wait, We did do the accounting huh? Then I will not stand for this and take it to the American people blaming it all on Reps in congress. If that does not work we will sweep it under the rug and change topic, has anyone seen Mitts tax returns. Damn Faux news still wont drop it.....tell them we will give a full accounting (in Dec). This type of behavior is not exceptable(without large camp donations).

GDITMMM!!!! We had bonuses slashed to zero or thereabouts and no COLAs the last two fiscal years. So while the rest of the federal rank and file has been "taking one for the team," the GSA mucky poobahs have been draining the treasury (as if there were really any money in it). GSA works right next to the federal budget; you'd think they might have noticed there is a recession going on. GDITMMM!!

I camp a lot and fish various areas around the US and every retired person I meet worked for the Govt. a few were pilots. I meet almost zero that retired from private companies. Expensive RV's , Nice condo's lots of travel are the norm. . I rent a house from a guy in Belize, my age retired fireman also has a condo in Fla. a 30' boat at both places. You may have avg. pay now but you get to retire early and have similar pay the rest of your life + huge bennies. Cry me a river.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, it really is Political Nasty Time on this one if you Libtards wanna dig just under the surface. You see, Federales that get bonuses are what is termed "Executive Service" (SES), and guess what boys and girls, Executive Service is Political Appointment Territory, not Civil Service employees. Civil Servants do not get to participate in those bonuses.

And these yahoos are NOT Bush's Fault. elite

A few bad apples spoil it for the hard working GSA employees.

GSA bonuses

Rep. Donna Edwards, D-Md., spoke emotionally about a female GSA employee whom she saw burst into tears because she works hard, gets no bonuses and attends no conferences, “but her agency is in the headlines every day. GSA needs to get its house in order. We cannot take it anymore,” Edwards said. “I am disgusted.”

Mica should write laws regulating private sector bonuses, conferences, CEO salaries, etc.

How would you feel if your hard earned bonus was taken?

TJ is out of touch. Reagan changed civil service in 1984. All who joined the federal service since then are in the same Social Security retirement system as every other working American. No more retire at an early age with 30 years service and get 60% of your high 3 for the rest of your life.

When I retire I'll be eligible for SS (if it's still around), a small annuity pension both I and the gov't pay into (I guess it's like a SS supplement), and my TSP (Thrift Savings Plan) that's like a limited 401 K. Which is one reason I am still working. The TSP is the bigger part of my retirement, and after the hits it's taken, continuing to work seems like my best plan. The health care plan is probably the best part, since in retirement I will be able to stay in my same plan and pay the employee share, same as while working. State workers can stay in their plan, but have to pay the entire premium.

I encounter retired folks all over, from both public and private sectors, and they all seem to have been in the right place at the right time, with their good pensions, RVs, condos, etc. My buy high, sell low strategy keeps me driving a car that gets decent mileage, pulling a 16' Lund, and camping on gravel bars with grizzly bears when I'm able to fly to a fishing destination, unless it's the tropics. Then I rent a thatched roof hut.

You need to get out more AM its not uncommon to see 1/2 to 3/4 of a $millon in hardware sitting in an RV spot between the RV and the boat. Even tent camping is expensive for the avg joe anymore . Salmo cry poor all you want the single largest block of institutional investors in the US are public employee pension funds. You said you were retiring next year I bet you are well below the avg retirement age of public company employees.

TJ,

I ain't crying poor, but I'm far from the public sector crowd you described. You also know a whole lot less than you think you do. And I'm older than my pre-84 gov't peers who retired 5 to 8 years ago. I'm not certain, but won't retire until I can get full SS in a little more than 2 years when I'll be 10 or 11 years older than the folks on the old civil service system. If I'd joined federal service right out of college I could have retired comfortably 8 years ago and maybe have some of those accuterments you described earlier. I feel like I need to max my SS and continue investing more in TSP to afford retirement.

Yep I am wrong thats why you are posting on a thread about excessive govt. pay ,why there are news story's that every state, city and county is having financial problems because of the excessive pension burden. A simple lesson; you have two ears and one mouth for a reason you should listen twice as often as you speak, Mr 9026 soon to be 9027

"You think anyone making over $35,000 a year is a fat cat if the money comes from taxpayers. " No at all. I think that if they take a job for $35k a year they should not cry about it if they took it becasue after 20 years they get $30k a year in retirement + full benefits.

A lot of retirees have lost a whole lot of money on investments in the last decade. A classic red herring

Again, look at the members on this very board who can afford fancy fishing vacations outside the US. Most have never worked for the government.

If I cared what a midget from Shelton stuck in the 80's or a loud mouth debarred lawyer thought I might be devastated.
