Would like a rifle and scope, with flat trajectory, enough knock down for blacktail, whitetail, and Muleys, with a scope that adjusts and is capable of shots at less than 100 yards and out to 350 yards if necessary. Is there a set-up for tis? .270? 7mm? I don't mind a little kick, but i don't want something that is uncomfortable to shoot and practice with. Looking for quality. Used is okay as long as in great shape. Any offers?

I hunt with a Tikka T-3 lite SS in .270 Win. It shoots well under an inch with reloads , and it weighs only 6 and a 1/4 pounds. Recoil is light. Ive owned many rifles and this is the best by far ive ever owned. Around $500 new.

thanks for all the great info on the Tikka. If I cannot afford the Tikka .270 AND the Burris Scope, what would be a good second choice for the Brand maker of the .270 rifle? Remington, Winchester, ???? Also, for all around hunting, close and long shots, i like the look of the reticle with the range marks from center on down the cross-hairs, but not sure what power to get or even what they really mean? Is an adjustable scope what I would want? Thanks again. BMF

Lately I have had a couple fellows tell me the Weatherby Vanguard .270 is a good choice and also, the remington 70 shoots amazingly accurate out of the box? What is your fellows opinions on these rifles? Thanks. BMF

Weatherby Vngrd would be my choice if I didn't want to spend the $ for Tikka.
Remington quality is way too spotty for my $$$.
If you don't handload, the big 7 is alot more recoil for not a lot of advantage over 270.
If you are not an experienced rifle shooter, the 7mag would not be the first choice.

Rem quality spotty,been around guns 30+ yrs,never heard a qualified gun man ever say that. More custom made rifles are made with Rem model 700 actions than any other. Recoil between the 7 mag and 270 is barely noticeable. The 7 has better knockdown power at any range( heavier,larger diameter). It probably isbetter long range than the 270. Though a man who knows know his rifle is the most deadly,no matter the caliber.

Your questions make it sound like you don't have that much experience with rifles. Are you sure 350 yard shots are wise?

7mm 140gr@3100 19.2lbs recoil
15% difference and you aren't even using the heavier bullets (160gr) that optimize the 7mm.
Trust me, in physics, you don't get something for nothing.
Remington 700 is a good starting point for a custom rifle.....You can bet those actions have seen alot of work before they get to the customer.
For the money, there are better out-of-the-box rifles.

Two schools and you have to decide on which one you belong to or plan on owning a lot of guns to find out. Big bore vs. small bore. Some will tell you that big heavy bullets are the way to go while others will tell you smaller calibers that are faster and flatter shooting are the way to go. I am a .270 and .25.06 man myself.
The .270 is the best choice for western big game hunting IMHO.

I would not waste my time with the 7mm I would go with the 7mm MAg. more versitile and probably the best choice for a first time gun owner.

I think I will go wit the .270, not sure yet which maker. And yes, good point, I would never attempt long distance shots that i have not practiced over and over and over again with absolute confidence i could make them. But, that is my eventual goal; to be that practiced that i may be able to make such long distance shots in the future with much practice and experience. Right now, being a bowhunter, 100 yards sounds "LONG" to me. Thanks again. BMF
