I'm no collector, nor an expert, nor much of anything at all in the firearms department so take it easy on me.....OK? smile
I just bought one of the new break down Ruger 10-22's and need a scope to mount on it. Looking for something simple, functional, and reasonable.

Any help appreciated.

Depends upon how you'll use it and how much you want to lighten your wallet.....

A fixed 4x for a simple pinker.

A variable in the 2-12 range (2-7, 2.5-8, 3-9, 4-12, ect.) for reaching farther out on small targets.

Given the 22RF trajectory, an elevation turret for those so inclined to equate POA to POI for longer pokes.

For a factory 10-22, and not an Anschutz, the first option will likely serve well. I like Leupold glass. Used reduces price in accord. Have fun!

A coworker recently bought the same gun and he mentioned something about long or large objective size and interfering with the takedown function. Something to look into.

I agree with Driftin'... a used four power works great for all around plinking. If it wasn't take-down I'd be leaning more towards a variable just because my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and zooming in for a perfectly placed headshot is satisfying, even before the shot.

I will sum it up to say my .22 PCP air gun has a 4x16 AO Nikon on it... Way overkill for your platform but I think a 2x7 may be useful if your vision is anything like mine.

Good luck Slab- new toys are the best.

Thanks guys....really appreciate the tips.

I just walked back in the house. Noticed these guys from the porch and went down to the creek. The dogs are slow..... rofl .....I saw them first.
The dogs can't get to them with the boundary collars on, and I won't shoot them, but when I was younger......
As long as they mind themselves, I'm OK....I'll share my space. smile

There was this one down below.....

and these guys up above.......

They must know they're safe as I walked up and they just looked at me.

Nikon prostaff 3-9x40. Around $175 I believe. Good scope for the money and would work good on another rifle for this area if u choose to use for deer/elk.

Any thought on the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50? I'm thinking about picking something up in the .223 range for long range target practice and maybe a bit of varminting. A friend is going to sell his Zeiss for a reasonable ($400) price and I'm considering it in advance of the rifle purchase....

For awhile I had a beautiful old Redfield 6-18 AO on a purpose built 10/22 target. Sure it was overkill but it was a blast to watch the bullet as it followed its trajectory to the target.

Literally watch the bullet disappear into the paper.

As mentioned....any decent scope will do the job. It all depends upon distance to target, size of target (dot vs crosshair) and money.

Hard to go wrong with Leupold. Coincidentally Camera Land has a sale on Zeiss Conquest with $100. The Zeiss 3-9X40 (their best for the $$$$) is like $359 with $100 rebate.

I LOVE THAT SCOPE!................

Well, I ended up with a Barska Sniper 3-9 x 42 IR (red or green) water and shock, see thru dust caps.
Mounted cleanly, doesn't interfere with anything and still fits in the bag. Haven't shot it yet.

Driftin'......damn, couldn't believe the price ranges!! Talk about sticker shock! smile
