Bob's Facebook page has a couple pics of a db stuck on the Calawah. What is the story is here? From the vantage point of the pic, I don't see any abnormal bad water that I wouldn't just go through without a second thought. I assume he just got sideways in the rocks. Is there more to the story that the pic doesn't show?

I have only fished with Bob once and that was a long time ago. I do recall him saying, as we watched a pontoon coming down the rapids behind us, "mmm, that is an interesting route". It did turn interesting for the guys in the toon, but good thing they were in a toon and not a drift boat.
Wonder if the guy went right, when he should have gone left and tried to get left after realizing his mistake and didn't make it?

if you've rowed that section of water you would realize how much is truly in the way. I'm in next open seat!!!

Glad to hear everybody made it out OK.
It would be interesting to see how the retrieval was done in that section. Retrieval guys amaze me.
Kudos to Bob and other first responders. Stuff happens but still a sober reminder that if and when we get in over our heads we put others at risk as well. Be safe out there guys.

Did the calawah once in a driftboat, when we were young and dumb. Probably about 15 years ago. Bob waited for us at the top of one of the rapids and said if you want to live, follow me. Stand up guy that knows all those rivers very well. For those that dont have a clue think of it as the sol duc,but half the size. Most of the float is rapids with no room for mistakes. You either know the path in advance or your screwed. Thanks again Bob.
Also, it looks like this occurred with higher than normal flows, which would actually make it easier to navigate. As mentioned above aluminum pinball or rather pochanco. You cant see all the boulders just below the surface.

I reckon the retrieval took a couple tries with busting of lines, but I hear the boat came out without a scratch,

Buddy says he missed an oarstroke when one of his oars hit an unseen rock under water which caused him to miss his desired path and what you see is what happened. Luckily they had a cellphone on their person. I dont think you could swim it from there without really risking your life. Scary story tho.

As a friend of the boat owner, I'm glad Bob and Carl were available to help out and everyone made it out safely. Thanks to both of you. Thanks to those that helped get the boat out as well. When things go bad, they happen very quickly. SF

With rescues like this happening every year, Bob should put a Superman 'S' on his boat.

Bob should put a Superman 'S' on his boat. Somehow I don't see that happening.
