Hello all,
Hopefully if everything pans out I will be picking up a DB this week. I had to beg and bargain with the wife to make this happen so I won't be able to afford any high dollar plug set ups. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on good affordable rods. Preferably 100. I had a daiwa rod suggested on another forum but would love to see if I can get a glass rod for around my price range. I plan to pull hot shots and tadpollies.

check Craigslist. good deals all the time on there. usually you can find loomis HSR 1021 rods in GL2 for like $150. Great plug rods and also double as great heavy drift rods. it's hard to beat glass rods though. If you can find a fennwick fs79c jump on it. good luck on the search.

Lamiglas Classic Glass series are always a great place to start. I think they retail for less than 90, and go on sale for less than 70.

Those rods are brick $hit houses. Pretty sure it's the same rating. I use one for sturgeon. Not a rod I would use for steelhead plugging. If you want to see the action of the plug.

Do what neon said. Or get a lamiglas kokanee downrigger! I always thought they would make a fun steelhead plug rod!

Beat the street, and go straight for the 83c, and never look back.
Gonna be tough to muster two in time for a maiden voyage on that budget though. Could be done by next season for sure.

You could happily pull plugs with most of the cert pro casting line up if you're not stuck on a 7' rod too.

I have a friend that I think has a couple classic glass. I will contact him and try and get a deal. Anyone tie up 8wt's for plugging? I had a broken 8'6" 6wt 2pc fly rod, the tip was still intact and i found the bottom to a broken 8'6" casting rod in my box of broken rods that the 6wt tip fit perfectly on. Stripped off all the finish down to bare graphite and wrapped a set of fuji guides. That was by far the nicest plug rod I've ever felt and fished. It had an extra fast super mag action and looked as though it was a factory action.

Those okumas mentioned above would be a really nice plug rod but their graphite. If your going for a glass rod in that price range that you can actually find, the lami 82 is the way to go. Their strong enough to pull kwikfish for kings and still be able to get them to wiggle with small hot shots. But if your willing to drop 140 or so on a rod the xfc 802 is a awesome glass rod. Its disscontinued but there still around.

True the okuma rods are graphite but if your not set in stone about glass/graphite then there probly the best new buget plug rods around for 70$
Lamiglas classic glass go for around the same price but the okuma has more backbone and does a great job for the money.

83c's are in your budget, maybe not your time frame, but you will never have to second guess weather or not you got the good shiz.
