I try to go to one every year, at a minimum. Make it a habit after doing it once a month or more for a few years. Very happy to see that one of their primary concerns is the absolute safety of the kids.
If you have kids, go to a school board meeting. Really. You don't need to say anything, just show up an observe.

Sounds like your school district may be expanding since they are talking about bringing in 400 jobs to McCleary at a pipe manufacturer for oil exploration. Jobs for Grays Harbor County

Trust me, I know, but better to have a plan and not need it than to need a plan and not have it.

That proposed pipe plant is about 3/4 of a mile from my house. Trains already run by there, which is how 95% of their product will go out. Would love to have the jobs here, as the mill production has gone WAY down.

Sounds like they are improving their "situational awareness", which is great. It is suprising how many people entirely lack that skill. That was one of the primary points of the discussion on that topic. Know who and what belongs there. Identify and confront whatever/whoever doesn't.

andy, do you have the "watch d.o.g.s." program at your school? I think it's a great program for both the students and fathers/grandfathers/male role models. we have one at lindsey's school pretty much everyday. you get to spend time in classrooms, help students with extra help, fix classroom stuff, and play with the kids at recess. It's not a "security" thing, per se, but it's a very postive experience worth checking out. it's a national program. I've done it every year at least 1 day, usually 2. I usually do it around lindsey's birthday. http://www.fathers.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=60willy

The chances of being killed at school is about 1 in 10 million. That'd be a 1 in 10 million chance of being 100% dead!

I usally act as a chaperone for field trips every year. Those days are a hoot. I wish I could make it to more visitor lunches. Ryan has a bunch of funny friends. I can run that by the Superintendant. Looks like a neat program.

the kids think you're a stud. it's really nice for the kids who don't have a good father figure in their lives. one of the most rewarding things i've done there is work with the special needs preschoolers. it was one of those things that stick with you and realize how blessed i really am...

Jobs for Grays Harbor County It is funny the current owner of that site is a client of ours, and they hired us to do a bunch of drainage work on that property. I could not understand why they would throw that kind of money at the site, they gave us a reason, but it didn't seem to pencil out. This pencils out much better,

Good luck with RCW 9.41.280. Call your rep and try and get it changed. But, there are provisions for firearms to be upon school grounds, and even in schools themselves within 9.41.280.
The law is fine as it stands today.
