yarnies + scent?

How do you guys scent your yarnies?
I tie mine up for the specific color of the yarnie. And most all scents when added to yarn will slightly dye the yarn the given color of the particular scent. This is something I want to avoid. What's the point in a great color contrast and bling of the yarnie only to take away from that with dulling it with scent
I don't have great success with yarnies in the first place. And I just ran out of eggs. So I'm gonna be fishing yarnies a lot more. And want to get any edge I can with them.

Don't make this too complicated........
Give em a little stank if you wish, or fish em clean.
I stank em, fish don't seem to notice any changes in color.
There are good skents out there that are not as colorful, try em.

you will get some color distortion with any 2 different colors, what you want to try to do is match the colors as close as you can...
bright pinks, shrimp oil
bright reds, egg oil
i prefer oils on yarnies over the gels, the gels make them like a sticky mop, and will lose the dexterity of the yarn, and the overall shape of it...
obviously if you have yarnies with white spots, the oils will tinge them the color of the oil a bit, but it doesnt matter, nothing in nature is perfect, just dont use blue on red/white, or you will make things difficult possibly... then again, you might find something that really works... best thing to do, is try them out, and see what works better than the rest...
for different colors, while you are curing your eggs, depending on how you cure them, SAVE the juice from them, different cure colors, create different juice colors, and just dunk your balls in there for a bit to absorb sent, or take a few of them and just leave them in the oil throughout the day...

The fish don't care. Steelhead are aggressive. Put the yarnie in their face and it will get destroyed. Yarnies, unlike spoons, do not have a huge attraction radious. Put some stank on em and get them in the zone.

Pro cures water soluble is good for yarn and jigs. But its does leave some oil and effect feathers/fur contrary to what pro cure says. But in terms of dye free low oil scents thats your best bet in my opinion.

I hate gel scents period. Put it on a plug and you have your work cut out for you getting it removed. Even with lemon joy.

My favorite colored yarnie is tied with 80% glo bug egg colored yarn It's really light colored, and any scent really changes the color or the yarn. I catch enough on them without scent and with scent. But my personal attractions towards them dies when the scent ruins the masterpiece. Haha

If you research or look at the scents I told you of, it will answer your questions and give you the desired results you are looking for. Anise plus and shrimp are the only ones I have tried. I found the anise to leave more of a residue than the shrimp oddly enough but it could have been that particular bottle.
P.S. These scents were designed for such applications.....You're welcome!:-)

Agree with coho. There steelhead. Find 'em and put it in their face. I used those scents out of insecurity on new waters. Hardwear doesn't need any funk.

when i use them for salmon, or when they are above worms drifting, i like some scent on them... which ends up being generally egg or shrimp, since i use colors related to that... scent never hurts, unless it destroys the presentation...

I like the new UV gel scents. Been using the smelly jelly special mix for steelhead for a long time, but switched last year mid-float to a bottle of UV shrimp stank. My what a difference it has made for me. Maybe it is just a confidence thing, but business sure picked up after swithcing to the UV scents. Doesn't seem to matter what color yarnie or rag or how it stains the foam or yarn.

Don't make this too complicated........
Give em a little stank if you wish, or fish em clean. Exactly..... wild fish dont need scent or that hyped up UV bullsh!t.... Bankscum quit second guessing your tactics, you're making this steelheading hobby seem like you need willy wonka's golden eggs to catch one... maybe if you weren't trying to noodle these fish you'd might have some success.

Whoa there pal! You leave my noodle out of this. I'm having one of my best seasons to date and I'm doing it all on my poor noodle rod and 6lb line. The challenge, or lack of challenge drove me to it. And I'm not second guessing tactics. I'm just getting really bored with the same sh!t every day and looking for ways to make my time more interesting on the water........ Besides fishing with goose
