ill be driving from anchorage to kenai and back in august; any recommendations for "must stop" fishing locations on or around this route?

daluiski -------this is coming from someone who has driven that for the past four summers. A great drive!! Although this past winter may have taken its toll on the road.
Are you doing this alone?? Family?? Guys only?? Get yourself a copy of the Chamber of Commerce tourist book from Anchorage. (Call them to send you a copy. a MUST! or buy something from the bookstore. There are several fishing areas along that route on the Russian River.
And you want to check out Seward. Give me a day or two and I'll try to locate some other info. Maybe there's SOMEONE on this board
that can fill in the names particularly along the river.

Well, I certainly wouldn't consider them 'must stop' locales ... but you're only going to have a few options on this route anyhow. You can try Bird Creek just outside of Anchorage ... be sure to bring your hard hat and protective eyewear ... or the Upper Kenai for a few early (depending upon your timing) silvers or late (again, depending upon your timing) sockeye, as well as some trout. Although later in the season, you'll still only have to just look for the other parked cars along the Upper Kenai to find the spots. Have Fun!

WELL - WELL Bobolink You are living and breathing. I knew there WAS SOMEONE ON THIS BOARD who has made that drive. Isn't there a Russian River area where you take Tom Sawyer's raft across the river to fish??

daluiski my man...A fantastic drive!! (I have done it 9 times) Alas like bob I dont feel anywhere along the route is a must see. I would suggest a copy of the "milepost" and call the soldotna chamber of commerce at (907) 262-9814 ask for a Kenai peninsula travel planner. I head back up july23 for reds so maybe Ill see you. Ill be the guy quietly slipping away from the crowd when noone is looking.
