http://m.now.msn.com/christopher-dorner-is-first-drone-target-on-us-soilYour thoughts? Not a fan or Dorner, and I'm all for him seeing the insides of a body bag, but I would prefer that they make every attempt to positively ID him before they let the missiles loose. Two trucks are already dead. How many more trucks need to die?

The language was specifically sensationalist in that article. As a drone target it means they are looking for him with one, not flying around armed with 4 hellfires ready to blast any hit on a FLIR. If I were searching for a man in Wilderness and had one at my disposal it would be a useful tool in the quiver. Now that I think about Drones in that capacity I could agree that rural search and rescue would be an acceptable use case scenario & something I'd vote for. Urban operations or god forbid using one as judge, jury and executioner is wrong and shouldn't be allowed anywhere.
Ask the 1000's of people killed in collateral or by mistaken identity in the mid-east.

Sky-Guy nailed it. Drones can / could be a very useful tool; they just need to be used responsibly and with MASSIVE over-sight.
The only thing that bothers me about the Dorner deal is the cost of manpower to an already broke state (and Federal government). I highly doubt such a large scale search (and huge reward) would be conducted if Dorner just killed regular ol' citizens. How many less citizens with real needs are being served when virtually every cop is on the hunt?

Excellent points FP. I've thought more about what you have said and it makes clear sense (at least to me). Likewise, I think your spider hole theory is spot on and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that his truck location was a well planned bait and switch.
While I don't like the situation; think the guy is a true nut (as opposed to a "hero" to some) and am not a fan of the LAPD....it will be interesting to watch how long it plays out and how it will ultimately end.

I agree with Sky-Guy 100%.
We already use IR cameras in choppers.......what's the diff? +1 I wonder how it was when they could look for bad guys with a car instead of on horse or foot? I'm cool with it if they only use it for searching.
