This will be my first season to try Ling cod fishing in the sound, I've been on charter boats in the ocean but never out of my own rig. I have primarily fished the West side of 10 for Salmon in the past as I generally put in out of Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge. Although not opposed to towing or running the boat a reasonable distance to find some fish. Not looking for anyones secret spots but just some general ideas. I'm thinking Blakley Rock, the rock breakwater off of Blake Island where the foot ferry pulls in, the fish haven on the South side of Blake island... I've heard off Edmonds and Shilshole can be good as well as some spots on P-bar and of course under Galloping Gerty.
Any preferences as to technique? I have a dozen each diamond jigs in 4oz & 6oz and will try some live bait rigs as well.
Has anyone used the helper hooks like used for butterfly jigging with diamond jigs? Seems like it would have some advantages.
I recently bought a Shimano Convergence CVC-90H2B rod 10-30lbs 1-6oz rod and I think I'll put one of my Charter Specials on it. Thoughts on rod choice for both the jigs and live bait rigs? I'll put 55lb HiVis Power Pro on it, I like to watch my line when jig fishing.
TIA for the input!
Is anyone attending the Salmon University seminar next weekend? I'll be there and hope to meet some of the board members there.
