No belly to go by on the top fish but I would say in the 11-12 range. Second fish is around 7.

Just goes to show how much a camera can distort things. Based on the best guess of three of us who were there, got a good look from several angles and actually hefted the fish, the top one was about seven pounds tops. The bottom was a solid 15.It's too bad the picture of the bottom one didn't come out better, it was a real beauty.

Congrats to Sol, OPfisher, Tbird and Brood Buster for getting it pretty dang close. You all win the chance to take me fishing. Second prize is you can give me five pounds of your best cured eggs. laugh laugh

Ummmm, me thinks you all wrong. It is the same damn fish, I promise. That was the only wild hen you handled yesterday Dave. I looked at the sequence of shots just to make sure. :p She was 35"-36"....I say 15-16 lbs. Sorry the photos suck.....late in the day, raining like heck.

A real honor to fish with Dave and we were lucky to find some fish. Although we went 6 for 8 as a group, the highlight of my day was giving Dave a hand poured, painted, and tied jig and seeing him land 2 wild fish on it, including the ONE fish above. laugh Mr. Vedder was top rod going 3 fer 3.

Todd managed that nice hatch hen (with eggs wink ) and lost another wild fish right after Dave landed the big hen. I went 2 for 3 (no suckers, but did land a coho) losing a big fish right off the bat to get everybody pumped. I also landed an estimated 14 lb. wild hen...no digi picts of that one, Dave had REAL camera! Landing her is another story in itself.

I could have fished the last day of the season today, but I didn't.....why ruin it by getting skunked again? Very memorable day on the river with two pretty (in a non-Brokeback way) decent dudes....thanks again guys. beer

Dave, I think you fooled yourself...those two pics are of the same fish!!

You fought it, I landed it, and Ike took a pic of me holding it with you in the pic...that's the bottom one...then I got out of the pic, Ike took a pic of you, and off she went.

However, that proves the point even better...in the top pic, you only see half the fish...in the bottom pic, you see the entire fish, and I've got it angled back a bit towards me so that you can see the girth of her...she looks bigger in the second pic.

That fish was a solid 35", 15 lb. shiny new hen...very nice fish, Dave.

Fish on...

Todd

Dave, check the backgrounds on those two pics...

Here's the full pic of the "larger" fish...

Like I said, I think it proves the point you were trying to make even more...same fish, a solid 15 pounder, in two pics...and the first pic makes it look to be somewhere around half to two-thirds the size that it looks in the second...

By the way, who's that good lookin' devil holding your fish? Someone should remind that idiot to spit out his wad of chew for pics!!

Fish on...

i smell a conspiracy!!!! methinks todd is correct! note the rod just off dave's shoulder in both pics (at least the full size one and dave's first one.) it's a trick dave's pulling, trying to make us all look foolish. rolleyes prize should go to dan s, who estimated both fish at 12#. laugh laugh

Aunty,

At first blush, the pic does look like Part II to Sparkey's Brokeback River pic, but please note that Dave and I have the requisite six inches of space between us...this hug is well to the left of the "brokeback line"...!!

I think Dave was just looking to be steadied so that he didn't topple over...he was pretty beat up by that fish!

Fish on...

Aunty, that's something you'll have to bring up between Mr. Vedder and Mr. Caveman...I've signed a lot of things in my day, but a big hairly lunk's chest ain't one of 'em!!

I'll give credit where credit is due..."Doe" caught that one, almost entirely by himself...he needed *help* with the other two he caught that day...

A ten pound native Dave caught earlier in the day made a bid for escape, after Dave had set his rod down, and before the fish had been unhooked...I snatched up Dave's fishing rod just as the fish tore pell mell for the tailout, and got almost as good a fight out of it as Dave did the first go 'round!

Fish on...

Todd

Okay, I must confess. They are both the same fish. I got confused because Todd, AKA Ike, sent me two photos. One was labeled native hen "small" and the other simply, native hen. Because I had caught a small hen earlier and the day and because I knew Ike had photographed both fish I assumed the one labeled "small" was the small fish. In fact what he meant by "small" was the image was smaller.

But I did, albeit accidentally, prove my point the same fish got a wide variety of guesses from all us. Bottom line is its mighty hard to judge size from a picture.
As for as the arm around Todd, assume what you will. I think he just needed a hug!

Same fish, huh? So anyone that guessed two different weights is a dumbass? laugh

Being off on the weight by 20% makes you a dumbass, too, but nearly as much of a dumbass as the folks who not only were off by several pounds, but were guessing that they were too different weights, too!

What's the dumbass rating on the guy who caught the fish, and still thought they were two different fish?

Off the scale, I'm guessing...

Fish on...

P.S. Dan, you da man.
