I have a model 70 .270 a browning bar .270 and a savage .270. I love the caliber but the model 70 dosnt shoot well the bar is too heavy for the kind of hunting I do, and the savage is my wife's. Anyone have an opinion on the best shooting .270?

People seem to like a Kimber 8400 Montana for a out of box, light unit.

I'd take a .280 over a .270. Kimber makes the Improved version of the former....

I've heard some bad things about the .280. A coworker brought his on a guided elk hunt in Mt, the guides wouldn't let him use it citing several elk shot that were pin holed and ran off.

My .270's have killed plenty of deer elk and bear. They seem to drop critters faster then my 300 rum. With my past experience I am set on a new 270

I'd get a new guide, some better bullets and put in more range time. wink

I also know an excellent MT guide. In 2011, one of his clients took a stellar bull at 450 yards and some change with photos of same. One shot took both shoulders and exited the off side with the bull dropping in its tracks. The rifle was a chunk 22-250AI pushing 62 grain TSX's. The shooter was a handicapped 12 yo. The kid has sand.....

Either a Kimber 84L Montana or Remington 700 SPS Stainless would be a good'n for what you're after. Happy hunting.

I love my Weatherby Mark V. It has a super sweet trigger and is very accurate. Of course I bought a bow a year after buying the Weatherby so I haven't hunted with it much but will be more then happy to if I ever draw one of my OIL tags.

.280's are right up there with a .270 and .30-06 on power level. I would consider them essentially interchangeable.

Either the Kimber or the Weatherby Vanguard S2.
