Get the older style larger ones for tuna gear they might suit the larger rods better

Fishtale, I sure hope you don't plan on chasing tuna with that boat in your avatar! smile

the holders would be the least of your problems.

There was a discussion a few weeks (months?) ago on the salty oregon forum. There was a particular high end rod holder that was getting rave reviews, but it too expensive for me. Many of the folks recommended the Scotty Striker for tuna and halibut. They noted that they took large rod/reel combinations very well. Based on that discussion, I've picked a couple up but haven't had a chance to test them yet. One nice feature, they fit in my existing mounts. I have noted that my rods with a trigger grip aren't going to seat firmly in the lower plastic housing, but they still fit ten times bettter than the do in my regular Scottys. FWIW.

from Scotty's! My old Fish-on's are wore out! Slab Happy there is no way
I would even think about taking my sled 40 miles out to the Blue Water
I have a Seasport 24 Xl for that!

Tuna? Attwood or PerKo stainless steel clamp-on rod holders are the way to go if you are really serious about tuna fishing.

We caught 17 albies on Sunday - most all of the rods were in Folbe rod holders. No problem at all.

If your serious about Albi fishing go with rocket launchers. I fish Folbe for Albicore but I if I am lucky i will get a second trip in this year. They were not built for tuna fishing (and I should know)but I haven't had any trouble with them and a lot of people use them for it. They wern't built hor Halibut but a lot of people including my self use them for that too. If you use them for tuna I would say not to fish them 90degrees to the boat with a hard diving rig. Make sure your drag isnt locked down and you should be fine. There is plans for a magnum Folbe but it will be awhile. Thanks for all the support guys.

I run em for tuna with extensions 90 degrees to the boat no problems. Havent tried a diver on the side yet.

Use em for reeling in Halibut with extensions.

Would love to see a magnum extension otherwise i think the rodholder itself could handle the stress just fine.
