Maybe I'm crazy. But if you take me to your spot and ask me not to put it on front street Im not going to post photos of thay spot a week later when I go there without you. I'm not saying that's the reason there are boats every where or how word got out. I'm saying it was a boner move.

I've been following you for sometime now Nate. I was going to wait until I was finished to inform you, but I have been filming you for a documentary I am making about adult retardation in Washington State. It's been an eye opening experience. Thank you Nate.

you admitted to looking at your BFF's junk at a bachelor party, and very graphically detailed the size of it...

and you call me retarded?

you should do the documentary on yourself, and entitle it "Loggers, Dongs, and Miley Cyrus", yah freakin fruit pop....

Merg did nothing wrong, he didnt publish a map like FHN did, he didnt create the internet, and he didnt tell all the other people he wasnt even with to call their buddies to come down and clean up shop....

leave him alone...

Nate, there's still a lot to be learned. What we do know is that there is hope. Data and statistics show in similar cases with like individuals who put there mind to it had more opportunities than we had initially believed. The data shows in your case that with the right amount of effort you could find a career greeting customers at Wal-Mart.

Some basic rules that I follow that never seem to let me or my fishing partners down.

1. When in doubt, don't post.
2. When in still in doubt, ask. If successful, ask others in your party on the day you fish if they would mind if you shared any info (and what info specifically).
3. Known go-to honey holes on known rivers are generally acceptable, but see rule #2. If its still "no", find cooler fishing partners.
4. Revealing true "zipper lips", hot techniques, lures or baits is NEVER acceptable and its your responsibility to understand the difference and be respectable to your fishing friends and the hard work and hours they've put into finding said success.

Just my $0.02 worth....

Asking is the key. Not hard to do.

I can probably provide the most levity to this thread compared to anyone on this MB. I know the spots Merg posted intimately. All of them, I caught fish in many of them the same days he did, the days preceding and since then.

You wouldn't believe how crowded it got since Merg posted those pics. Shoulder to shoulder, boats anchored bow to stern, launch lines around the block, tempers flaring, and pink hoochies unavailable in a 30 mile radius. There has been a run on Aussie sprunch spray too.

3 Probs As I See It

Prob 1. Too many people want to be fishing heros online and play guide

Prob 2. Too many people want to be fishing heros in real life and play guide

Prob 3. Too many people want to be guide in real life

Solution. Dont be a guide. Don't post much of this stuff at all. Keep a low profile.

Believe me it is more fun. This is how I mostly roll and it is nice and drama free with the exception of some rare crazy [Bleeeeep!] that I just have to chalk up to the crazy passion in fisher folks.

However, I have said this online before and people thought I was crazy. Everywhere I fish, I get followed on a pretty regular basis. These people don't know who I am, they just know I am going fishing, pull over and follow me to the river to learn a new spot to fish. And it isn't like I am hanging out by the road, people just know a fishing pullout/rig when they are looking for one. There are a lot of fish hungry people out there nowadays metaphorically and literally.

I was exploring on the OP on a logging road deep in the woods and had a truck follow me for way too long and ultimately I parked to hike in trailess. After I hiked a mile into woods and realized it was a waste of time I turned back and met this guy following me. The dude was super clueless and I am pretty sure he thought he was going to learn a new super zipper lip because he seemed embarrassed. Lol it was weird. But I was pretty irked at the strangeness of it all.

I have only been seriously fishing for 15 years and I just see more and more people out there. The internet isn't the only thing to blame and neither are guides and neither are the mags. We all got chrome fever real bad from the Creator as far as I can tell.

That is how The Hater sees it.

My entire point was he was shown the spot by a member who wanted it to be quiet for as long as possible. I don't blame boats being there on Merg and if he had found the spot himself and posted photos I wouldn't have said a word. I have never once commented on a board about exposing spots but this was different. Make sense?

JB, Good post, quit insightful.

I have fished the Pt. Defiance area for longer than I care to admit. It has been my observation that if a person wants to learn spots and techniques from the most successful anglers in that fishery you will need your looking tubes handy, and be vigilant, as you will not see any net waving, or hear any squeals of delight from those who are most successful.

Your anecdote about your short hike on the OP, was really funny and struck very close to home, because, now you know who that guy was that was following you, it was I. wink
