I'm going fishing in a drift boat for the first time this weekend with a buddy who has some experience on the oars. I'm hoping that some of you can give me some tips. Should I side drift or boondog plugs? What color, size, and type of plugs work good? Can I pull bait, like prawns or spinners? I'm bringing two poles. When fishing from the boat should I hang one off the side or back of the boat while casting bait, pink worms, or rags with the other? Maybe I should just get dropped off on the shore above a hole and fish it from the bank.

I would start by pulling plugs or what some call hotshoting,The best way to go is get a variety of plugs to match certain water clarity conditions. If you are a begginer Taddpoly's would be a good choice,They rarely need tuning and work great.Gold or silver with any combination is good to start.
Hot Shot 35's are another plug that works great in about the same colors. Metalic Pink or the black and white copcar work great when the water is colored. Their is a great book that explains all this better. It is How to Fish Plugs I would pick this up They have it at sporting goods stores or Amazon.com or You can order it through Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine.
Also your favorite fishing supply store can be a great source for information. Also you might want to book a guide trip and get some hands on experience with someone who is a pro and will save you a hack of alot of money in the long run.
If all else fails watch what the other guys on the river are doing, ask questions 99% of the people on the river would be glad to help.
Good Luck.

One of my favorite plugs are Magnum Wiggle Warts. They stay down good and catch fish. I like the blue/silver/red and green/silver/red. Freddies has for about $6.00.

Thanks for the replies. I got a hot shot 35 in the black/white, a wiggle wort in orange/silver, and a kwickfish in blue/silver/orange.
