VANCOUVER – An intruder got more than he bargained for when the homeowner’s son tackled him and held him down until police arrived.
Jason Guerra said he got off work early Sunday night and was in the garage when he heard a noise coming from the front of the house.
When he went to check it out, he said, he saw the intruder standing in the entry way of the home on Plomondon Street holding his son’s laptop computer.
“I said, excuse me. [He] turned around and he looked right at me, didn’t say a word, turned back around and started to walk out the front door,” Guerra said. “And, that’s when I decided I better hang on for a while.”
The intruder, identified by police as 35-year-old Nathan Severin, struggled to get away according to Guerra, but he held on.
“He goes, ‘Come on man I just pooped my pants, please let me go," Guerra said. “And, I didn’t believe him then we started smelling it and we said, boy you sure did. You’re having a bad day.”
Police arrived a few minutes later, arrested Severin and took him to the hospital for an evaluation.
There, the suspect had to be sedated, according to Vancouver Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.
Court records showed that while at the hospital, Severin kicked a police officer in the jaw and an emergency room nurse in the arm.
He was eventually booked into the Clark County Jail on burglary and assault charges.
Records show that Severin had been released from the Multnomah County Jail in Oregon three days before the alleged burglary.
He was jailed in the previous case in connection with a possession of meth charge.
On Tuesday, Severin’s bail was set at $40,000.
No release date has been scheduled, according to jail staff.
