I know some folks think chironomid fishing is like watching paint dry, but I enjoy it myself.
Hit the local pond this morning and the bobber bobbed. Wet as hell weather wise.
Good hatch came off till around noon then it petered out. Ended up with around a dozen fish to hand including four nice browns.
Missed a lot of takedowns as well.
Most the fish came at 15-16' in 18' of water.
Red or silver chromie were the hot bugs today.

I've never fished chironomids under a bobber. Or indicator. Or whatever. I don't think I'd care to make a steady diet of it, but I'm willing to give it a try some time.

BTW, I've noticed that you go fishing in some really [Bleeeeep!] weather.

Salmo,
Chironomids make up over half of a stillwater trout's spring diet, so it it worth learning if you fish lakes much.

As far as the weather, guilty as charged. I was going to go searun fishing on the canal but didn't want to deal with the predicted wind gust to 20 mph.
I chose the lesser of two evils and sat in a boat getting drenched.
Very little wind though which was a bonus..... wink

Excellent hatch today. Found some pretty nice size players.
Wine red v-rib with a white bead was the hot ticket today.
